80s Meets Now: Vintage E-commerce Website

Project Description:

This project involved designing a vintage fashion e-commerce website tailored for Gen Z shoppers. The goal was to create a digital storefront where users could explore and purchase curated 1980s-inspired outfits with a modern twist—blending nostalgia with present-day usability and aesthetics.

Objective:

Design a full desktop e-commerce landing page that captures the essence of the 1980s fashion era while still appealing to the tastes and behaviors of a Gen Z audience. The client requested a look and feel that was both retro and fresh, with high focus on visual storytelling, product discoverability, and a clean yet expressive layout.

Design Decisions & Implementation:

Color Scheme: Two visual themes were explored. I chose warm, earthy tones—like browns, oranges, and muted reds to reflect the retro theme, while keeping contrast and vibrancy high for Gen Z appeal
Typography: A serif display font was used for headings to give it a vintage magazine feel. Paired with clean sans-serif body text to keep the design legible and modern
Imagery: Fashion shots that evoke 80s styling, leather jackets, flare jeans, large shades—were paired with polished, scroll-stopping photography to keep Gen Z users engaged
Dual Versions: The light and dark themes were created to give the client a choice in tone, both carrying the same structure and functionality but appealing to slightly different moods

What I Learned:

Balancing Nostalgia with Modern UX: Designing for retro themes doesn’t mean compromising usability. I learned how to weave nostalgic design elements into a layout that still meets current UX best practices.
User-Centered Aesthetics: Understanding that Gen Zs value aesthetic authenticity helped me lean into storytelling through imagery, layout rhythm, and bold visuals.
