Recharge Payments

In my 3.5 years as Art Director & Design Manager, I supported the marketing team as we helped Recharge grow from a mid-size SaaS startup in need of a rebrand, to a company with over 500 employees and a 2.1 billion dollar valuation.
I helped lead Recharge’s 2021 rebrand, their annual subscription commerce reports (including 2023 and 2024), and their annual ChargeX conferences. As a collaborative partner, I worked with our marketing, sales and content specialists, conceptualizing, iterating, and designing digital assets, print materials, and motion graphics for a variety of projects, all while maintaining a design system for use across departments.
In addition, I managed, mentored and learned from our creative team, helping them grow from entry level and junior designers to senior level creatives and learning from them every step of the way as well. It's been one of the biggest joys and highlights of my design career so far.

The Rebrand

I worked closely with our Creative Director at the time, Shan Miller, our fabulous creative team, and our marketing & content team to plan, and execute an entire brand refresh. From logo, type and color, brand voice, to illustration style, iconography, and everything in-between, we rolled out a complete brand package, guidelines, and asset library, all housed and managed in Figma. Below are selections from the finalized brand guidelines.

The Annual Reports

The art direction of Recharge's annual SSC report would heavily dictate a large portion of the company's visual language and marketing reach every year, as we would also fold that direction into our annual 3 day conference, ChargeX. In my role, I would direct our design team, collaborate heavily with marketing, content, sales and leadership to ensure that the visual package hit all of the benchmarks in terms of company positioning, storytelling, data visualization & clarity, visual fidelity and consistency across many executions. I would also work closely with our web designer and front-end developer, to ensure interactions and animations flowed smoothly and sensibly.

Charge X

This annual event would bring together Recharge's top merchants, industry leaders, influencers and anyone interested in online sales and subscriptions. As a three day event taking place across multiple locations, it required immense planning, collaboration, organization and flexibility—sometimes things don't go as planned (ask me about my CrunchLabs packaging mockup sprint). I worked closely with our outside production firm, and led our creative team in all of our design efforts: event website design, digital assets and signage, stage design, print materials, fabrication & installations, branded merch, large scale wraps, and motion graphics. It's an immense amount of coordination and work, but wildly satisfying and exciting to see it all come together.

Motion Design

Leaning on my history as an animator and motion designer, I would also create animations and explainers for various applications and marketing efforts. Below are a few examples.

At Recharge, I led their rebrand and art directed key reports, and events—guiding design and talent as the company grew from a startup to a $2.1B company.
