📌 Case Study: Interactive Recipe Email Newsletter for Bored Cow

Project Overview

Client: Bored Cow Industry: Food & Beverage / Plant-Based Drinks Project Type: Recipe-Based Email Newsletter Campaign Focus: Strawberry & Blueberry Iced Matcha Goal: Drive engagement, inspire recipe exploration, and reinforce a fun, community-led brand identity.
Bored Cow is a playful, modern beverage brand that blends creativity, community, and experimentation. This email newsletter was designed to showcase a drink recipe using Bored Cow products while keeping the experience fun, scrollable, and interactive rather than sales-heavy.

🎯 Objectives

Inspire subscribers to try a new drink recipe
Highlight product usage in a natural, lifestyle context
Increase click-throughs to recipe content
Encourage exploration of additional recipes within the brand ecosystem

🧠 Content & Design Strategy

1. Recipe-First, Not Product-First
The headline immediately focuses on the recipe, not the product:
“Strawberry & Blueberry Iced Matcha”
By leading with value and creativity, the email feels like a fun discovery, not an advertisement. The product is introduced organically as part of the recipe.

2. Strong Visual Anchor
The drink photo acts as the centerpiece:
Bright, layered colors
Transparent glass to show texture
Decorative elements to enhance visual appeal
This instantly grabs attention and encourages scrolling, especially on mobile.

3. Gamified & Friendly UI Elements
The layout includes:
“Difficulty level” icons
Sticker-style badges (“Made with Bored Cow Strawberry”)
Hand-drawn illustrations and icons
These elements make the email feel approachable, playful, and interactive, matching Bored Cow’s brand tone.

🎨 Visual Identity & Layout

Soft pastel color palette to maintain warmth and friendliness
Rounded cards and borders for a casual, zine-like feel
Large typography for scannability
Whitespace to prevent visual overload
The design balances editorial structure with fun, chaotic charm, which suits a lifestyle beverage brand.

📱 Mobile-Optimized Scroll Experience

The newsletter is designed as a vertical journey:
Recipe spotlight
Quick benefits (“Easy to make,” “Refreshing,” “Looks cute”)
Primary CTA to view the recipe
Secondary content recommendations
Brand universe entry point
This keeps readers engaged without forcing a single hard conversion.

🚀 Call to Action Strategy

Primary CTA: “SEE THE RECIPE”
Low-friction
Curiosity-driven
Aligned with content intent
Secondary CTAs:
“GIVE ME MORE RECIPES”
Social icons to enter the “Bored Cow universe”
This layered CTA approach increases engagement opportunities without overwhelming the reader.

🤝 Community-Driven Touch

Crediting a creator (“Thanks to Lilly…”) adds:
Authenticity
Social proof
A sense of community collaboration
This reinforces Bored Cow’s identity as a brand built with its audience, not just for them.

📈 Expected Results

This email is optimized to:
Increase click-through rates on recipe content
Encourage repeat email opens
Strengthen brand affinity
Drive traffic deeper into the brand’s content ecosystem

🛠 Skills Demonstrated

Email layout & hierarchy
Lifestyle brand storytelling
Visual content curation
Community-focused marketing
Soft conversion funnel design

✅ Final Outcome

The final newsletter successfully transforms a simple recipe into an engaging brand experience. By blending strong visuals, playful UI, and community storytelling, the design positions Bored Cow as a fun, creative, and culture-driven beverage brand—not just a product on a shelf.
