Project Overview

This is a website project for Ariel Noboa. He is a wedding Photographer based in the Dominican Republic seeking to create editorial, emotional and light filled memories to his clients on their special wedding day. I’ve worked with him in order to create a website that allows him to show off his work and make interaction with potential customers easy.

Why I made this project

Ariel is an amazing photographer. I was thrilled when Ariel contacted me to collaborate with him on this project, I fell in love with his work the moment he showed me, so I was super excited to work alongside him!

Competitive Analysis

I analyzed four websites of the most popular wedding photographers in the Dominican Republic. Competitors were chosen based on their direct competition with Ariel.
Alexis Escamez

Valiko Proskurnin

The Good
Alexis Escamez targets the local audience by using Spanish on the website. They all show different services they offer.
The Bad
They all use a lot of text in many sections of the website. The catalog of work look sluggish and doesn’t provide a lot of context in any of the websites. No personalized services for clients.

User Survey

As part of the research process, we conducted a quick survey to better understand the needs of individuals who have previously hired or are considering hiring a wedding photographer. We sourced our volunteers from Ariel's social media channels and Reddit. The survey helped to inform our understanding of user needs and served as a valuable input for the design process.
82% of respondents consider the presentation of a photographer's portfolio to be the most important factor when choosing a wedding photographer.
67% of respondents prefer a single photographer to a team of photographers at their weddings.
92% of respondents ranked a photographer's style as the second most important factor to consider when choosing a photographer, after their portfolio.

Time to start getting into design!

Excited, I began creating the first flows and low-fidelity wireframes for the project. Our research inspired me to showcase Ariel's portfolio in a appealing and way, and I couldn't wait to bring the final product to life.

Flow diagram

I created two flow diagrams outlining necessary website functionality and user tasks. I created these flow diagrams to better understand how to create low-fidelity wireframes for Ariel's portfolio showcase. Our main goal is to provide a great user experience for Ariel’s clients.
Main User Flow
This user flow is designed to help new users discover Ariel's website and become aware of the different sections and tasks available to them. The flow is intended to be easy to navigate, allowing users to explore relevant sections and complete tasks as they move through the website. The goal is to motivate users to check out different sections of the website as they explore, creating a positive and engaging user experience.
Potential Client User Flow
This flow is more specific and includes a hidden section called "Private Investment" that shows Ariel's prices, plans, and financial options. This section is not public as Ariel prefers to have contact with clients first and then settle on different options and plans.

Low-Fidelity Wireframes

Using the flow diagram and research as inspiration, I created low-fidelity wireframes for the main flow of the UI case study. The designs prioritize clear navigation and calls to action for optimal user experience. To streamline the presentation, I will only showcase the desktop version.

High-Fidelity Wireframes

The initial step was to create a moodboard and brand guidelines for Ariel. This was done to ensure that the product was consistent with Ariel's visual identity. Once the moodboard was created and the brand guidelines were established, we started applying these styles to the product. The result is a high-fidelity design that showcases Ariel's portfolio in a visually appealing and user-friendly way. We prioritized clear navigation and calls to action for optimal user experience. The high-fidelity screens are a testament to our dedication to providing a great user experience for Ariel's clients.

Brand Guidelines - Summary

High Fidelity Prototype

I connected my high fidelity designs into a clickable prototype. That will allow me to test the website on a first group of users. After creating sample iterations we conducted a testing round to check the usability of the website and see if there were any features we could improve. We ended up doing a second round, but here is the final High Fidelity Prototype.

This was a great project for me! I got to use most of my knowledge, implement different phases of design, and create a product that brings impact to Ariel’s business! I was able to implement brand design, UI design, research on the wedding photographer business, and provide multiple solution for Ariel in order to create a catered business for his target audience.
