While working at Sweatcoin, I led the redesign of the Bidding system within our app. One of the main challenges we faced was how to make the experience more rewarding after an auction ended. Specifically, we needed to highlight the Winner in a way that felt celebratory, while also giving other users a reason to return and re-engage with the Auction feature – even if they hadn’t won.

The primary goal was to build trust and social proof around the auction system. We believed this would drive an increase in daily active users (DAU) by making auction outcomes more visible and emotionally resonant. We also aimed to boost social media engagement and support revenue growth through premium subscription upsells.

We designed a new feature called Highlighted Auctions. It allowed Winners to share a short quote and a photo of their reward, visible to users browsing past auctions. We also surfaced light profile details of the Winner – such as step count or membership status – enabling users to compare themselves in subtle, motivating ways. This introduced a sense of healthy competition without over-gamifying the experience.

We ran multiple rounds of usability testing and gathered direct user feedback throughout. We observed a 5–6% month-over-month increase in DAU, and users responded positively to the added visibility and community feel. The feature gave us valuable insights into what motivates users to revisit and interact with past auctions.

However, despite stronger engagement, the expected revenue uplift didn’t materialise. Because of that, the feature remained in testing and was not released to production.
