Overview
Maibakam Initiative is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising public awareness about the critical role history plays in fostering peace and national unity. Aligning with Sustainable Development Goals 4, 16, and 17, the Initiative promotes education, peacebuilding, and sustainable development by emphasizing historical understanding. With a vision of creating a society where appreciation of history leads to lasting unity, Maibakam Initiative approaches its mission with values of inclusivity, collaboration, integrity, and empathy.
The Need
As conflicts and divisions continue to hinder development, there is a growing need for initiatives that bridge differences and foster mutual understanding. Maibakam Initiative identified the underutilization of history as a tool for peacebuilding. By leveraging historical narratives, the organization aims to address the root causes of conflicts and promote sustainable solutions. To effectively communicate this mission, Maibakam Initiative required a distinct and meaningful brand identity that resonates with its audience and reinforces its purpose.
The Solution
The proposed solution was to create a brand identity that embodies the essence of Maibakam Initiative—peace, unity, and historical significance. The branding was designed to:
Evoke emotions of harmony, understanding, and hope.
Celebrate the diversity of African cultures while representing a global community.
Align with the Initiative’s values through thoughtful design choices in symbols, colors, and typography.
The Process
1. Research and Discovery Through the analysis of organizational materials, the Initiative's core values, target audience, and design requirements were defined. Insights were documented in a comprehensive Discovery Report, highlighting the importance of cultural inclusivity and historical reverence in the brand identity.
2. Conceptualization Drawing from the themes of peace, history, and unity, initial design concepts were created. The coffee brown and maroon color palette was selected to reflect the richness of history and the warmth of collaboration. Symbols representing global unity, African culture, and historical landmarks were integrated into the design concepts to create a sense of shared heritage.
3. Design Development Refinements were made based on feedback from the Maibakam team, focusing on creating a logo and visual system that felt both contemporary and timeless. A combination of minimalist and storytelling design elements ensured the brand would resonate across different platforms and media.
4. Design System Creation A robust design system was developed, including reusable components, color palettes, and typography guidelines to ensure consistency across all brand assets. This system empowers the Initiative to maintain a cohesive identity across digital and physical platforms.
5. Delivery Final deliverables included a complete brand guidelines document, the official logo in scalable formats (SVG, PNG, AI), and branded templates for use in print and digital materials such as posters, merchandise, and social media graphics.
Conclusion
The Maibakam Initiative now has a professional and culturally resonant brand identity that aligns with its mission and vision. The brand effectively communicates its dedication to using historical understanding as a catalyst for peace and unity, helping the organization stand out in its field.
