Food is one of the things we are most exposed to in our daily lives; these flashcards can help children become more familiar with the names of different foods, while the illustrations can help them recognise the appraise of food, learn and connect between food and life.

About this project

This foodie flashcard project was created from a passion for children’s literacy and language education. I hope to design learning materials to promote traditional Chinese characters and Cantonese, accompany children in exploring the fun of words and provide more learning possibilities for children and parents.
The inspiration for this project came from a conversation between me and a friend. I found a few children's learning materials about Traditional Chinese and Cantonese learning. So, I designed a set of children's food literacy cards to provide more learning possibilities for children and parents.

Foodie theme and illustration

I chose food as the theme because food is one of the most accessible things in daily life; children can quickly come into contact with it, which helps them connect learning with life.
While learning and applying it flexibly, they can deepen their knowledge and become familiar with relevant understanding.

Food Illustrations

Selected more than 100 kinds of food as themes, accompanied by illustrations, so children can learn the names and appearances of food through images, making learning fun. These flashcards can become little helpers in children's language learning journey and accompany them in exploring the fun of words.

Double side flash card

The literacy cards are double-sided in design, allowing children to remember better the structure of the text, the meaning of each word, and the food it refers to.
The front of the card is a picture combined with words and Cantonese phonics, allowing children to recognise the words for food through images. The Cantonese phonics symbols help children learn pronunciation.
The back of the card is presented in pure text, magnifying the structure so that children can learn the structure and strokes of the text with the help of their parents or teachers.
