Solution & Approach: I built a self-hosted AI support system using n8n as the backend automation engine, UChat for the chat interface, and GPT-4o-mini through OpenRouter for the AI brain. The system connects directly to their Shopify store through two API endpoints. One handles product recommendations based on real inventory. The other pulls order tracking data and delivery status instantly. I added a 1,000-message memory buffer so conversations feel human instead of robotic. For escalations, the agent creates Zendesk tickets automatically when it hits something complex. I mirrored the same logic for email support through their Outlook inbox, maintaining conversation threads so customers always get context. The system includes automatic fallback models, so if the primary AI goes down, backup kicks in without dropping conversations.

Monthly savings of $1,400 translates to $17,000 annually. The system resolves 90% of order tracking queries without human involvement. Response times went from hours to seconds, including weekends and holidays. The cost stays flat whether they handle 500 conversations or 2,000, scaling without adding headcount.
