Migrating Article Content from Panorama's Old Webhost to a New One
I might be a content writer, but that doesn't mean I don't have a few tech tricks up my sleeve. When Jeff from Panorama Global reached out to me on Contra to help with a website migration project, I was excited to dive right into the work.
Over about a week I:
Created a spreadsheet to log all articles and the changes I would make.
Sourced article heroes that had been lost in the migration from their original articles and uploaded them to the new site on DigitalOcean.
Changed (most) article headlines to title case.
Checked all links in each article to make sure they aren't broken. Links to new CMS were changed from external links to internal.
When meta descriptions were lost, I wrote new ones.
Rebuilt pages from legacy content to body content to make editing more accessible down the line.
Flagged any missing content or issues with content blocks.
Added any photos and documents to the CMS that weren't previously uploaded.
Fixed H2 and H3 headings to align with SEO standards.
These types of projects don't often land in my inbox, but I'm so glad that Jeff reached out. Social impact is important to me, and I relish any opportunity to work with nonprofit organizations and mission-driven companies.
