A gamified, mobile-first web app that increased student engagement across live religious classes, supporting 200+ concurrent users with 99% uptime.
Overview:
RealFormation was built to help a ministry modernize religious education, especially for children and teenagers. The goal was to make Confirmation classes more engaging by adding games, points, avatars, and interactive live sessions — similar to Kahoot — to keep students motivated and involved.
My Role:
As the sole frontend developer, I built the entire interface from scratch using React, implementing everything from app architecture to final delivery:
Translated Figma designs into a fully responsive mobile-first experience
Integrated APIs with React Query and Axios
Developed interactive games, a functioning in-app shop, and the live classroom module
Built micro-animations using Framer Motion to boost interactivity
Enabled real-time teacher-student interactions using PubNub
Worked closely with backend developers and designers in a fast-moving, remote team, managing tight deadlines and constant feedback from the client.
Challenges & Solutions:
Creating a smooth live classroom experience with PubNub was challenging due to limited support for React. I reverse-engineered package methods and sourced solutions from existing open-source projects.
With limited time and shifting scope, I prioritized delivery through strong communication, time management, and an iterative development approach that kept tasks unblocked and goals aligned.
Results:
Successfully launched the app on time, fully functional and scalable
Client and teachers reported improved class flow and stronger student participation
Maintained 99% uptime with over 200 simultaneous users
Project received enthusiastic feedback and has been adopted as the core teaching tool for classes
