Lacoste Tennis Spot Sound Design

Davies Aguirre

Kinetic, texture-forward sound design that turns a single rally into a stadium-scale moment.

Brief

Transform a short Lacoste Tennis spot into a tactile, high-energy moment that feels equal parts athletic and iconic—anchored in clay-court physicality and crowned by brand recognition. The sound needed to carry the viewer from microscopic grit to macro celebration, without stepping on the picture.

Approach

We structured the piece as a sonic arc—underground → ascent → suspension → impact → brand reveal → ovation—so each beat adds momentum and meaning. The guiding principle: let texture and timing do the heavy lifting, then pay it off with a crowd surge that feels earned.

Sound Design

Birth from clay: A low, granular bed and pressure-build “whoosh” sell the ball breaching from beneath the surface—motion you can almost feel in your chest.
Ascent & speed: A custom whoosh with layered transients and controlled Doppler cues heightens climb and velocity without smearing the frame.
Time freeze: At apex, we thin the spectrum and stretch the tail—micro-reverbs and airy highs create a suspended breath before gravity takes over.
Impact back to earth: A tight, granular sand crunch with micro-debris details lands the moment; transient shaping keeps it punchy on small speakers.
Brand animation: As the Lacoste crocodile springs to life, crisp, springy articulations and subtle “snap” gestures telegraph agility and heritage without cartooning the mark.
Stadium release: We end with an electrifying burst of crowd—wide, layered cheers and leader claps that bloom in stereo, placing the viewer courtside.

Mix & Translation

Focused transient control for broadcast/web platforms; judicious low-end so the clay reads on laptops and phones; LRA kept compact for impact, with headroom preserved for the final swell.

Process Notes (short)

Built from custom recordings and designed layers; editorial in tight sync to animation beats; final delivery as print master plus tidy stem set (FOLEY, WHOOSHES, IMPACTS, BRAND, CROWD) for future versioning.

Results

Tactile SFX that amplify motion and brand presence without visual clutter.
Clear narrative arc in under a minute, ending on a high-emotion brand moment.
