Development and technical maintenance for a US audiovisual rental and event production business, spanning 10 locations, extensive local content, and weekly production releases.
The system behind the website
I maintained and developed the existing WordPress platform alongside a dedicated QA tester.
The setup included live, staging, and standby environments. Each of its 10 locations contained approximately 100 pages, with additional sublocation pages for Los Angeles and Miami.
Nine locations shared a similar implementation. The tenth retained the same visual appearance but used a different internal structure intended to become the foundation for updating the older locations.
The platform combined Hello Elementor and Astra themes, with Elementor powering the main page-building workflow.
Developing pages and extending functionality
I built new pages and rebuilt existing ones, both from Figma designs and directly from project requirements.
My work included extending functionality through Elementor, Advanced Custom Fields, and WooCommerce, as well as implementing category-specific layouts based on business requirements.
I also removed obsolete code left in the themes, working with QA to check that existing functionality continued to behave as expected.
Managing content at scale
With this volume of pages and location-specific content, repetitive manual editing was impractical. Much of my work involved database-level operations and bulk updates.
I supported the SEO team with product imports and exports, mass price and badge changes, and metadata imports and exports within the Rank Math workflow.
These responsibilities connected the site’s presentation with the underlying product and SEO data that needed to stay consistent across locations.
Supporting indexing and performance
I used Google Search Console to investigate indexing issues and review Core Web Vitals reports, then worked on the technical issues affecting those areas.
SEO requirements also shaped deployment: designated SEO-related files were excluded from the staging-to-live transfer.
Running weekly releases
Development took place on staging and moved to production after approval.
For each weekly deployment, I temporarily switched visitor traffic to the standby site, transferred the approved staging version to live with the required file exclusions, and switched traffic back.
I then performed a short production smoke test to check key functionality after the release.
My contribution
My responsibility covered the recurring development cycle: building and rebuilding pages, extending plugin functionality, cleaning up legacy code, handling bulk data changes, supporting SEO operations, and deploying approved updates.
I worked alongside a QA tester and collaborated with the SEO team throughout this process.
