Overview 🔎

The product aims to collect information about regulatory regimes, its compilation and process-mapping activities. Additionally, it contains information about processes for licensing and registration, application forms/data for each authority, fees and charges etc.

Problem & Solution 🤝

👉🏻 No central solutions for the food standard in Pakistan
👉🏻 Too much documentation required to register as a food business and fulfilling the safety standards is cumbersome.

Goal

The goal of this product is to pave the way and give ease to customers who are looking to start their food businesses and provide them with a centralized one window solution for all documentations and regulatory processes for multiple provinces through single application.

Process 🛣

For this project, time was of the essence. I needed a methodology that would allow me to move quickly and with purpose. That's why I chose to use the lean ux methodology. This approach is all about making constant progress and using feedback to validate or invalidate hypotheses. This was the perfect approach here because it allowed me to rapidly test different ideas and iterate based on user feedback. As a result, we were able to design product's UX in a short amount of time and with great success.

The Minimum Viable Prototype

Created the most basic versions of the concept as possible, tested these and picked the one which appeared to be promising. This MVP was later incorporated into further design and development rounds without too much hassle.

User interface design: (Consumer Panel)

After validating the wireframes, I designed the UI for the product. The design was heavily influenced by our initial assumptions.
Login & creation of account are based on the national citizen number provided by the government of Pakistan, adding up this in our process help portal getting the information based on registered NIC.
A dashboard with all possible features of the portal added in the system to help consumer navigate easily. User can apply for new/existing food licensing, medical screening of the manufacturing unit & team, new project registration, branch locators and more.
Aimed and planned to make the licensing process as userfriendly as possible. Through this users have the ability to register/apply for the licensing of their food manufacturing & retailing plants located in different provinces in a single application.
Online registeration makes a better impact & help users to track and up to dated easily. User can pay up their dues via registered payment platforms like JazzCash, Easypaisa along with an option of bank transfer and paying via credit/debit cards.
For the quality assuarance of the manufacturing plant or even any food relevant sector we added a monitoring system which can maintain the decorum of health safety. Applying for multiple business monitoring & registering multiple food products can be managed under single portal.
Keeping up on track with the payment, license, product registration & monitoring statuses and real-time notifications are also the part of this platform.
For further convenience we added a complaint section to get in touch with the authorized support agents in the food sector for any kind of information, help or feedbacks. Also added the way to locate nearby food authority branches.
One window solution — one of the major features of the portal which help users to get register for a license, apply for monitoring, registering products and many more detail on single page.

User interface design: (Admin Dashboard)

Providing ease for the consumers was itself a challenge, we handled all the possible solutions and also designed the Admin portal as well to track all the informations & take actions.
As its a combined provinces portal in place so we added a master filter to select the state while first login, this help to sort and filter all the data based on provices. Statistics & graphs added in the dashboard to help stakeholders to make decisions accordingly.
Tracking and sorting of new licenses, active licenses & the expired licenses kept seperately to avoid deviations or scepticism between larger number of licenses. Adding up the data for the consumers is also made possible in the admin portal.
Aptness way to approve the application or to request for the modification in the application is also managed in the portal. Furthermore, scheduling an inspection of the applicant’s plants are also made possible for the authorities.
For Approved & Inspected application, an option to generate the license certificates with a single button was also added.

Impact

The licensing app had a great impact. In just a few short months, the licensing process shifted from manual form entry to digital process, saving upto 90% of the workers time. The new app also had the added benefit of being more accurate, resulting in fewer errors.
Overall, the licensing app was a huge success, and as a worker mentioned, it’s hard to imagine going back to the old way of doing things.
