Project Overview

The client needed a modernized book cover for their upcoming Young Adult (YA) fantasy novel, Elements: Vol. I - The Rise of Azrael, which will be published on Amazon KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing). The redesign aimed to:

✅ Enhance market appeal to YA fantasy readers ✅ Stay true to the original concept while improving the design ✅ Optimize for Amazon KDP's print and eBook requirements ✅ Create an animated version of the cover for book marketing

Outdated Visuals: The original design lacked the modern polish seen in YA fantasy book covers.

Marketability for YA Readers: The new design needed to appeal to teen and young adult fantasy fans.

Typography & Readability: The previous font choices didn’t align with the epic fantasy genre.

Amazon KDP Optimization: The cover had to meet Amazon’s print and digital specifications.

Engagement & Promotion: The client needed an animated cover for marketing on social media.

My Approach & Solutions

1. Research & Concept Development

Studied best-selling YA fantasy covers on Amazon, analyzing what works.

Created a mood board featuring trends in fantasy, adventure, and mystical storytelling.

Consulted with the authors to ensure the redesign captured the book’s essence.

2. Cover Design Enhancements

✔ Color Grading & Lighting: Enhanced contrast, depth, and a cinematic fantasy feel. ✔ Elemental Symbols: Improved clarity, reflections, and textures to make each element distinct. ✔ Typography & Branding: Introduced a YA fantasy-inspired font with metallic and gothic accents. ✔ Composition & Layout: Balanced the elements for better visual flow and market appeal. ✔ Celestial & Mystic Effects: Strengthened the divine themes using glowing halo and feather effects.

3. Amazon KDP Compatibility

📖 Formatted for KDP Print & Kindle eBook: Ensured the design worked for both paperback & digital editions. 📖 High-Resolution 300 DPI: Optimized the cover for Amazon’s print-on-demand quality. 📖 Spine & Bleed Adjustments: Prepared the design to fit Amazon KDP’s size requirements.

4. Motion Graphics & Animation (After Effects)

To boost engagement, I created a motion-enhanced version of the cover: 🎥 Before & After Showcase: A smooth transition highlighting the transformation. 🎥 Animated Effects: Glowing elements, floating feathers, and subtle energy pulses. 🎥 Social Media Optimization: The animated cover can be used for book trailers, TikTok, Instagram Reels, and Facebook promotions.
