Overengineering Everyday Products.
This project started out with the idea of making an everyday product last you every day you have. We took the time to think about something that has been used throughout history, something that is still being used today; we came up with items to eat and drink. Even though our modern way of eating and drinking is slightly different than it was thousands of years ago, not much has changed. We figured plates, bowls, and cups was a good place to start.
Different variations of plates, bowls, and cups were sketched out on paper a quite a few times before making it's way on to a 3D modeling software. We used Fusion 360 to model and render the final images of the plates, bowls, and cups. We then explored different materials that are safe to eat and drink from. We landed on a lineup of six different types of metals safe to eat and drink from. Those materials are:
Aluminum
Stainless Steel
Brass
Copper
Bronze
Titanium
Each one of the materials are machined from a solid round bars of material and polished to a mirror finish. An optional coating can be added to any plate, bowl, or cup to add protection against scratches and acidic organic compounds.
