Developing and using green spaces and the surrounding businesses to encourage & facilitate community integration between refugees and locals.Testing the outcome
Why?
Due to the increasing number of people seeking refuge, a trend is expected to escalate with climate change. To address this influx, there was a need to develop spaces designed to enhance the lives of existing residents and newcomers. The project aimed to establish a more effective, place-based approach to facilitate integration, acknowledging the importance of cohesive and supportive communities in the face of rising migration.
How?
To adopt a place-based approach, I actively engaged with the community by volunteering at local organizations such as Moogety Grub Hub - Dig In Community Grocers, Living Rent Govan, and Govan Community Project. Through firsthand experiences, I gained valuable insights into the residents' lifestyles. Additionally, I developed tools and incorporated familiar games to foster conversations, facilitating a deeper understanding of the community's specific needs.
Outcome
The goal was to establish a system connecting various organizations around Central Govan's main park, Elder Park, leveraging the pre-existing resources in the park vicinity and enhancing them by introducing additional components such as theatre, cooking, gardening, and public events.
