Introduction to the problem

Due to its difficulty, some of the football fans playerbase choose to play other games rather than try Football Manager. The game feels harsh and unwelcoming, additionally the entry level is high. I have heard many voices saying that someone would like to try the game, but it looks like an Excel simulator and is complex at its core; one does not want to stress while gaming.

Solution

I have designed a system that gives more freedom to the player and placed instructions that are in-game within that new system. The fundamental concept behind my revamp of Football Manager was to make things simpler, give more options to the player while he needs to click and think less, and kick out needless information that is distracting from gameplay core features.

Goals in short

Simplify UI - Reduce unnecessary content to make the game more user-friendly for new players
Visual overhaul - Prettier, more modern & aesthetic visuals, clean and consistent design
Reordering - Reduce the number of possible actions by organizing the data and options.
Freedom - Increase player control and give them additional options, but keep the interface simple.
Unification - Avoid using imitation of real pitch - dedicated graphics instead
Cleaning - Remove or hide needless actions, interactions and texts that are overwhelming
Ease in-out - Flyout pages instead of stacking new windows on top of each other

Tactic Builder

Original Football Manager uses red/green colors to indicate options that player marked as active or inactive, adding to that realistic green pitch illustrations and colorful dots on it - interface starts to look like a pack of skittles. I have designed a lot easier to read interface with addition of vibrant colors.

Player instructions

Compact flyout sliding in, instead of current complex pop-up that contains a lot of informations and actions. Every player role is a preset of variously shaped instructions that you see on the screen, and there is no unavailable or conflicting instructions as in the original design. I personally find them very confusing and limiting.
