Here we go! It’s time to begin this incredible journey. This was my first UX design project, as part of the Google UX Design Professional Certificate. We started things off on the small screen with mobile applications, and I chose to design a food ordering app for a steakhouse.
I’m definitely a foodie, so choosing to create this kind of interface was a no-brainer for me. With an idea now selected, it was time to embark on the UX journey for the very first time!

Understanding our users

User research

I conducted both primary and secondary research to understand my users. As for my primary research, I conducted empathy interviews amongst my peers to learn about their experiences with ordering food on delivery applications.
For my secondary research, I looked in to online reviews about my competitors websites and mobile applications.

Designing the interface

Now it’s time for the fun part: designing the application! I envisioned On The Grill’s interface and experience to be similar to its industry counterparts.
In accordance to user pain points, I ensured that proper pickup and delivery times were included, as well as estimated nutritional information with every food item.
An important aspect of design that I had learned at this point was the importance of designing with accessibility in mind. As such, I kept my interface clean, used proper text hierarchies, and added buttons for screen reading and language translation, which appear at the top left or right of every screen.
