Project Overview & Role

Contributed to the end-to-end design and development of the Niazi Express digital platform a production booking and brand site for Pakistan's premium intercity bus operator. The platform combines online ticket booking with a public marketing presence that showcases the company's national network, fleet, and services.
Worked on delivering a scalable, conversion-focused web experience that lets travelers discover routes, select seats, and complete bookings online, while presenting company credibility to passengers and corporate clients. The role involved translating operational and business requirements into a modern digital product with clear navigation, trustworthy payment flows, and a secure integration layer to the existing ticketing vendor.

About the Product

Niazi Express is a leading intercity bus operator in Pakistan (founded 1998), serving 150+ cities with 900+ fleet vehicles, 3,000+ daily departures, and a network of 97 terminals nationwide.
The platform is the company's primary digital hub for online booking, route and terminal discovery, fleet and service information, and lead capture. It supports passenger self-service e-ticketing alongside brand storytelling, corporate profile delivery, and inquiry workflows - without maintaining a local booking database; live inventory and reservations are handled through the Smart Ticket vendor via a secure Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) layer.

Responsibilities & Contributions

Led development and implementation of the company's booking and marketing platform
Designed user experiences focused on trip discovery, seat selection, and booking conversion
Structured content and navigation across routes, terminals, fleet, services, and help
Built and hardened the BFF layer for vendor booking APIs (validation, rate limiting, HMAC trip tokens, caching, idempotency)
Collaborated with stakeholders to align the product with operational and business objectives
Developed responsive, accessible interfaces across devices
Integrated payments (JazzCash), transactional email (Brevo), maps (Mapbox), and PDF ticket/receipt generation
Supported testing, SEO, optimization, and Vercel deployment activities
Contributed to ongoing refinements to improve usability, performance, and booking reliability

Key Design & Product Decisions

Booking-first brand experience: Rather than building a generic corporate site with booking bolted on, the entire IA and visual hierarchy lead with trip search and booking conversion. Brand storytelling, fleet info, and service pages support the booking funnel rather than competing with it.
Secure vendor integration without a local booking database: All seat inventory, pricing, and reservation state lives in the vendor’s system. The BFF layer validates, signs, and proxies every request so the frontend never holds credentials, and caching plus idempotency keys keep the UX fast and safe without duplicating booking data.
Clarity for complex travel choices: Pakistan’s intercity bus market involves dozens of service tiers, coach types, and route variants. The seat-selection UI, trip cards, and filter controls were designed to surface the differences that matter (departure time, price, amenities, stops) while hiding operational complexity the passenger doesn’t need.
Trust and conversion for a mass-market audience: Many users are booking online for the first time. Google Places reviews, a visible terminal network, transparent pricing, and a minimal-step checkout reduce anxiety and drop-off. JazzCash integration meets users where their money already is.
Scalability for network growth: Routes, terminals, and services are data-driven: adding a new city or coach class is a content update, not a code change. Environment-based modes (stub, dry-run, live) let new integrations be tested safely before going live, and the architecture supports white-label or multi-brand expansion without structural rewrites.

Outcome & Learnings

The platform ships a complete, production-grade booking and brand experience for one of Pakistan’s largest intercity operators. It proves that a modern Next.js stack, paired with a disciplined BFF integration pattern, can deliver real-time seat inventory, payment processing, and transactional communications without owning a single booking record - keeping operational risk low while offering passengers a fast, trustworthy digital channel.
Key takeaways include designing for trust in a market where online booking is still new, building secure third-party integrations that fail gracefully, and structuring content-heavy sites so that network expansion (new cities, routes, terminals) requires zero code changes. The project also reinforced the value of environment-based execution modes for safely onboarding payment and vendor integrations in production.
