Designing With and Without AI: A Trip App and a Wellness Retreat Landing Page
Overview
A dual-brief design study exploring two different working methods. Task one required designing a collaborative mobile app for friend groups entirely through direct manipulation — no AI involved. Task two involved designing a desktop landing page for a wellness retreat weekend using a hybrid approach, combining Figma AI for wireframing, copy, and layer naming with hands-on visual decision-making. Both tasks were completed with screen and voice recording, thinking aloud throughout the process.
Goals
Design a mobile trip-planning experience that feels personal and collaborative for small friend groups
Create a landing page that communicates atmosphere and converts visitors through clear hierarchy and strong visual direction
Demonstrate two distinct design working modes and the honest, non-linear nature of each process
Outcome
Three key screens for the trip app — trip overview, collaborative planning with voting, and a shared wishlist — built using the Google Material Design kit and hand-curated imagery. A full desktop landing page for a wellness retreat weekend covering hero, programme, venue, pricing, and FAQ sections, designed using a documented hybrid workflow.
