The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation, and as believers, we are called to be ready to share it with others at all times. This is not just a personal choice — it is a divine command. The Gospel is the message that saves us, and it is meant to be shared with the world.
In Romans 1:16–17, Paul confidently declares: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.” The Gospel is the only message that brings salvation. Matthew Henry explains that the Gospel is the power of God that transforms lives, changing us from sinners to saints. It reveals God’s righteousness and extends His grace to all who believe.
In Romans 10:1, Paul expresses his heartfelt desire: “Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.” This passion should echo in our own hearts as we seek the salvation of the lost. Similarly, 1 Corinthians 1:18 reminds us: “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”
The Gospel is the power of God to save, and we must be ready to share it — at any time, with anyone.

1. The Right Mandate

As followers of Christ, we have been given a clear and urgent mandate to share the Gospel with the world. This is not a suggestion — it is a divine command from Jesus Himself.

The Great Commission

In Matthew 28:19–20, Jesus gave us the Great Commission: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.” This command is universal — it applies to all believers, in every generation, and is not bound by time or geography. Matthew Henry comments that Christ’s promise of His presence and power empowers us to fulfill this mission.
Dr. Jack Hyles, a well-known Baptist evangelist, emphasized the urgency of the Great Commission in his ministry. In The History of the First Baptist Church of Hammond, he wrote: “We are in the business of seeing souls saved. The Gospel is the most urgent thing in the world. Without it, people are lost. With it, they find eternal life in Christ.” His ministry, marked by thousands of baptisms and life-changing conversions, reflected his unwavering commitment to Jesus’ command: “Go ye therefore.”

Three Key Aspects of the Mandate

a. Redeem the Time In Ephesians 5:16, Paul urges us to “redeem the time, because the days are evil.” Time is fleeting, and the opportunity to reach others with the Gospel is limited. Matthew Henry writes, “The time is short, and the opportunity to win souls is limited.” Every moment counts, and we must seize every opportunity to share the message of salvation.
Dr. David Cloud, a respected Bible teacher, emphasizes the urgency of using our time wisely: “The Gospel is urgent because the days are evil, and the time is short. Christians must be wise in making the best use of time to share Christ, for the lost are perishing every day.” This sense of urgency should propel us to take action in the Great Commission.
b. Rescue the Perishing In Luke 19:10, Jesus declares, “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Just as Jesus sought out the lost, we too are called to do the same. Brother Jeff Simon wisely reminds us, “Because Hell is an eternal condemnation,” and we must take this task seriously. The stakes are high — eternal souls are at risk.
Brother Jeff Simon further warns, “Let not your loved ones suffer.” If we truly love our family and friends, we cannot remain silent. Our testimony could be the difference between their eternal joy in Christ and their eternal suffering apart from Him.
c. Reconcile Sinners to God In 2 Corinthians 5:18–19, Paul writes: “And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.” We are given the ministry of reconciliation — to share the message of forgiveness and offer the remission of sins through Christ, so others may be reconciled to God.

2. The Right Message

To be effective in sharing the Gospel, we must understand the message we are called to proclaim. The Gospel is not just a set of moral teachings — it is the power of God unto salvation.

The Core of the Gospel

In 1 Corinthians 15:3–4, Paul provides a simple yet powerful summary of the Gospel: “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” This is the right message: Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection — the foundation of the Gospel.
In Romans 1:16, Paul affirms that the Gospel is the power of God: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth;” The Gospel has the power to transform lives, deliver us from sin, and give us eternal life. It is the perfect message because it offers a solution to humanity’s deepest need: salvation from sin and eternal separation from God.
John R. Rice, a renowned evangelist and founder of The Sword of the Lord, often emphasized the power of the Gospel to save. In his book The Power of the Gospel, he writes: “The Gospel of Christ is the only thing that can change a heart, cleanse a life, and save a soul from eternal punishment. It is the power of God at work.” Rice’s ministry, marked by revival and thousands of salvations, reflected his firm belief in the transformative power of the Gospel.

Four Key Aspects of the Perfect Message

a. A Perfect Message of Salvation The Gospel offers a perfect way to be saved, a message that is clear, simple, and effective. In Romans 10:9–10, Paul writes: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Salvation is by grace through faith, not by works, but through Christ’s finished work on the cross. Matthew Henry comments, “Salvation is free to all who believe, and it is the most certain and secure thing.”
b. A Perfect Way Out of Hell The Gospel offers the perfect escape from Hell. In Romans 10:13, Paul assures us: “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Hell is real and eternal, but the Gospel offers deliverance from it. Matthew Henry writes, “There is no other way of salvation except through Christ — He is the only way.”
c. A Perfect Place to Live The Gospel promises a perfect place to liveHeaven. In John 14:2, Jesus promises: “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” Heaven is a perfect place, free from sin, sorrow, and death. It is where believers will dwell forever with Christ in eternal peace and joy. Matthew Henry explains that Heaven is not just a physical place, but a spiritual reality — the presence of God.
d. A Perfect God to Serve The Gospel introduces us to a perfect God to serve. In Romans 12:1, Paul urges us to present our bodies as living sacrifices to God: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” God is perfect in every way — loving, all-knowing, and all-powerful. Serving Him is not a burden but a privilege. As Matthew Henry states, the service of God is a reasonable response to the grace we’ve received through the Gospel.

Conclusion

As believers, we are entrusted with the greatest responsibility — to share the life-saving message of the Gospel with the world. Jesus commanded us to go into all the world and preach the Gospel, and we must respond with urgency and faithfulness. The Gospel is the power of God that saves, and as we faithfully share it, we join in God’s work of reconciling sinners to Himself.
Let us be ready, at all times, to share the Gospel. For the souls of those around us depend on it.
Call to Action: Are you ready to share the Gospel? Pray for boldness, seek out opportunities, and be faithful in your calling to share the good news of Jesus Christ. The time is short — let’s make the most of it.
