Students attending universities and post-secondary institutions internationally usually have difficulties accepting and making school-related payments, like tuition. This is because of the hassle of converting from their local currency to their country of study currency. Additionally, current banking providers are not paying strong attention to the growing Gen-Z audience on the African continent. Like many other college students studying internationally in Africa, I’ve faced difficulties moving money internationally and accessing familiar banking options in a foreign country.

Upon multiple interviews, these problems were grouped into three pain points

How can we expand banking across borders for the upcoming generation of Africans? Although there are many digital payment mobile apps out there, none are designed to cater to international students studying on the African continent.

Immigrant students and Gen-Z in Africa

I was brought into the project after some research had been done and wireframes had been drawn. Upon joining Dot, I helped make sense of product ideation and prototyping. and drafted a feasible information architecture that forms the basis of the mobile app:

Given our short window, I improved the existing wireframes and designed high-fidelity prototypes (communications were already happening with investors). I held guerilla user testing amongst college students at my university and design critique sessions with the engineering and product teams.
