Designing a Seamless Fiat and Crypto Payment Checkout Flow

Project: Bridging Fiat & On-Chain Payments Flow

Role: Product Designer Duration: 2 Weeks Tools: Figma

Context

Most SaaS pricing pages treat crypto as an afterthought, a clunky "Pay with Bitcoin" button tacked onto a card flow. I wanted to design a checkout experience where fiat and crypto feel equally first-class, not bolted on.
I audited existing crypto checkout experiences (Overstock, BitPay integrations) and found a consistent pattern: cognitive overload. Users were dumped into external wallets, shown raw addresses, and left wondering if their payment went through.

The Problem

Design a pricing and checkout flow that accepts both credit cards and crypto, guiding users to complete payment with clarity, trust, and minimal friction.

Key Design Decisions

The Flow

[Choose Plan] → [Payment Method: Card / Crypto] → [Plan Summary] → [Confirmation + Transaction ID]
Card Path: Input details → Save card toggle → Security reassurance → Summary → Done
Crypto Path: Select BTC (fast-track) or altcoin → "Send X BTC" prompt → QR + address copy → Progress tracker → Confirmation

What I'd Do Differently Now

Auto-detect wallet: If user has MetaMask or Phantom installed, pre-populate or deep-link
Real-time mempool status: Show estimated confirmation time for BTC
Multi-chain support: ETH, SOL, stablecoins. Each with chain-specific UX patterns
