UI/UX Systems Design for a Complex SaaS Streaming Platform

Role: UI/UX Systems Designer

Project Overview🎯

The Goal

Design a scalable console and operational toolset for a highly technical micro-service architecture, balancing comprehensive streaming capabilities with an intuitive user experience.

The Context

The platform required modular interface components to handle multi-streaming, digital rights management, and transcoding, acting as a hybrid solution for both technical integration and pre-configured hosted deployment.
The Challenge

Simplifying Complexity

Translating intricate technical constraints into scalable user interfaces.
Building product requirements that accommodated vastly different use cases without creating rigid, single-use interfaces.
Designing an architecture that serves both technical teams requiring deep API integration and non-technical users needing a pre-configured solution ("OTT-Lite").

The Approach: Systems-Thinking and Product Requirements 💭

Identifying Core Workflows

Deeply analyzing the underlying systems to establish requirements for asset management, stream monitoring, monetization, and user management.

Flexible Metadata Configuration

Designing an event-type framework that empowers customers to configure their own metadata schemas. This showcased the ability to design for varied, data-heavy environments, similar to designing interfaces for live voting systems, real-time sports data collection, and live television broadcasting.

Modular Component Design

Developing UI components that could adapt to specific representations, from high-level operational dashboards to granular stream configurations.
Key Solutions & Capabilities Demonstrated

Operational Console

A centralized hub for managing streams, media assets, and monetization through user-friendly interfaces.

Adaptive Data Interfaces

Frameworks that allow clients to enrich their live streams with custom data tailored to their specific use cases (e.g., team statistics, driver telemetry) without requiring bespoke development for each client.

Hybrid Delivery

Seamlessly bridging the gap between a fully customizable API-driven toolset and an out-of-the-box hosted streaming experience.

Outcomes

Delivered a cohesive, technically sound platform that simplified the integration of complex streaming services.
Established a robust system architecture capable of scaling across different technical requirements and operational demands.

Feature Spotlight: "OTT-Lite" Hosted Solution

Out-of-the-box configuration for effortless streaming.

Recognizing that not all clients require custom API integrations or possess the technical infrastructure to build their own platforms, I helped develop a pre-configured, hosted OTT solution. This abstracted the complex underlying architecture into an accessible, industry-leading streaming experience for non-technical users.
Key Contributions
Requirements Gathering: Researched and defined base industry standards to establish the core feature set.
Frictionless Onboarding: Designed streamlined setup flows to assist users in rapidly deploying their OTT environments.
Continuous Improvement: Established feedback loops to iterate and refine the product offering based on user adoption and technical performance.
