Verona's Pizza, Rebuilt for Fairborn

Studio: Vaughn
Role: Brand & Web Design, Build, SEO + AEO
Verona's is a family-owned Italian kitchen in Fairborn, Ohio with two decades of hand-kneaded dough behind it. They had the reputation, the regulars, and the awards. What they didn't have was a website that reflected any of it. We rebuilt the entire site from the ground up with a clearer brand voice, a stronger path to ordering, and a technical foundation built to win local search.

The Brief

Verona's has spent years building a loyal Fairborn following on giant slices, baked pasta nights, and a wall of five-star reviews across Google and Facebook. The previous site treated all of that like a footnote. The goal was to put the food, the family, and the call-to-order back at the center, then make sure Google and AI search engines actually understood what kind of business this is.

The Approach

Three principles shaped every decision.
Voice over polish. Big type, marquee tickers, and a deal of the day above the fold. The site needed to feel the way the shop sounds on a Friday night.
One clear action per page. Call, order on Clover, or view the menu. Every section on the site earns its place by pushing toward one of those three outcomes.
Real people, real food. Owner photography, in-kitchen shots of the 5 a.m. dough toss, and reviews pulled directly from real customers. No stock imagery.

Home

A loud opener anchored by "Fairborn's Favorite Slice," paired with a live deal of the day, a category ticker, and a review carousel that pulls real quotes from Google and Facebook. Two CTAs stay visible at all times: call to order, or order on Clover. Below the fold, a "Tonight's Hot List" preview of the menu gives first-time visitors a reason to keep scrolling.

Menu

The previous menu was a downloadable PDF. The new menu is a full, filterable page covering pizza, calzones, baked pastas, subs, rolls, salads, appetizers, drinks, and desserts. We built two interactive tools on top of it: a Build Your Own Pizza configurator and a Build Your Own Calzone configurator, both with live pricing that updates as toppings are added. Anchor-linked categories, hover-revealed ingredient descriptions, and clean pricing make it usable on any device.

About

The page the owner cared about most. A story-driven layout that hands the mic to the family, covering twenty years in kitchens, fifteen of them in Fairborn, and the daily ritual of kneading every pie by hand at 5 a.m. The page closes on the part of the job the owner says matters most: late-night runs, Friday takeout, and familiar faces walking through the door.

Built for Google, AI Search, and Local Discovery

A great-looking site is only useful if people can find it. We treated SEO and AEO as foundational, not an afterthought.
Technical SEO. Clean semantic structure, fast-loading WebP imagery, proper heading hierarchy on every page, full responsive system across mobile, tablet, and desktop, and a submitted XML sitemap. Every page has unique titles, meta descriptions, and Open Graph tags optimized for both search engines and social sharing.
Local SEO. NAP consistency (name, address, phone) across the site, structured data for the restaurant, hours, menu, and location, and tight integration with the existing Google Business Profile. The footer reinforces the address, hours, and phone number on every page.
AEO (Answer Engine Optimization). The site is structured so AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and Gemini can confidently answer questions like "best pizza in Fairborn," "where can I get a calzone near Wright-Patt," or "what time does Verona's close." Clear question-and-answer phrasing, named menu items, explicit pricing, and a strong About narrative all feed into how AI engines summarize and recommend the business.
Order-everywhere footer. Direct links to Clover, Slice, Grubhub, DoorDash, Uber Eats, Postmates, and Seamless. Wherever a customer prefers to order, the site gets them there in one tap.

Also Shipped

A contact page with directions, hours, and a catering inquiry path. Privacy, Terms, and Sitemap pages. A recognition strip surfacing BusinessRate Best of 2025 and 2026, Restaurant Guru Recommended 2026, and Nextdoor Neighborhood Fave 2023. Custom favicon, social share imagery, and a brand asset kit handed off to the owner.

How This Sets Verona's Up

The site is built to do three things over time. Bring more first-time customers in through stronger local and AI search visibility. Convert those visitors faster with clearer calls to action and a frictionless ordering path. Reinforce loyalty with regulars by making the brand feel as alive online as it does in the shop. The technical foundation is clean enough that the owner can keep running the business while the site quietly keeps working in the background.
