Healthcare Product Development

Ayanna Miller

While working at Centering Healthcare Institute (CHI), I've helped develop people-first products to support internal operations and external engagement with clinicians, patients, and healthcare staff. These iterative resources were developed with feedback from various stakeholders, including healthcare sites, internal staff, and funders.

Product development process and analysis

Each product I work on is developed with a strong focus on usability, inclusivity, and alignment with CHI's core values. My process includes:
Accessibility and inclusion: Best-practices for accessibility and EIB are at the core of my personal philosophy when creating anything. With these products, I ensure all content is gender-neutral, written at a 5-8th grade reading level, and structured for clarity and ease of use.
Highlighting the positive: While our work addresses serious health disparities, I intentionally shape content to center joy, resilience, and community. This ensures our organization's mission and core values are reflected in all of our products.
Audience-informed design: Each product is tailored to meet the needs of multiple end users (patients, funders, clinicians, etc.). As I work, I consider each audience's perspective, needs, and goals to inform the content, language choices, and format. This ensures our tools are both informative and useful. No matter what, I strive for clarity and simplicity in everything I write.
