IT Infrastructure Overhaul - BEDGEAR

From January to October 2018, I took on the critical responsibility of modernizing BEDGEAR's IT infrastructure, leading a comprehensive project aimed at replacing outdated systems with scalable, future-proof solutions. This initiative was pivotal in supporting the company's rapid growth and catering to an expanding remote workforce, a challenge that required a strategic and forward-thinking approach to IT management.

The project's strategic execution was multifaceted, involving several key initiatives. A significant step was the implementation of a scalable IT helpdesk solution, achieved through partnering with a leading IT support company. This collaboration was essential to meet the comprehensive IT needs of our staff across all locations, ensuring the efficient and effective resolution of technical issues. Additionally, we executed crucial infrastructure upgrades that included the installation of robust backup systems, critical server upgrades, and the integration of AWS services (S3 & Glacier) along with other cloud services. The modernization of our network appliances played a vital role in securing data integrity and enhancing overall system performance. Another critical aspect of this overhaul was addressing long-neglected system maintenance, which involved correcting years of oversight to stabilize and secure our IT environment.

Looking ahead, we initiated a hardware modernization effort aimed at eliminating outdated server equipment. This move towards minimizing physical infrastructure and adopting a more sustainable framework for data storage and processing marked the next phase of our IT infrastructure improvements.

The challenges faced during this project were significant, primarily due to the antiquated nature of the existing IT systems. However, through strategic upgrades of essential components and the implementation of rigorous maintenance protocols, we ensured the reliability and scalability of our IT infrastructure.

The impact of this project on BEDGEAR's operations was profound. We significantly enhanced the reliability and efficiency of the company's IT operations, laying a solid foundation for future growth. The establishment of a responsive IT helpdesk system markedly improved support for our dynamic workforce, facilitating seamless operations across the board. Moreover, this project set the stage for ongoing IT improvements, ensuring that our infrastructure could adapt to the evolving needs of the business and maintain operational resilience.
