HUMBLE HOMEWARE

Humble Homeware is a self-initiated Figma UX/UI design project for a fictional homeware e-commerce store. Commissioned by an imaginary client seeking to elevate their brand and drive sales, I was asked to create an online platform that not only showcased a diverse range of homeware goods but also facilitated a seamless booking journey. The client, targeting middle-class clientele, emphasised the importance of conveying affordability and accessibility throughout the website.

CLIENT: Humble Homeware

SERVICES: Figma UX/UI design

CLIENT PROBLEM

Humble Homeware is a homeware company that sells bespoke and alternative pieces for the home. They offer a range of different unique products and work with independent manufacturers to create high-quality items. Since their business is just starting off, the client hasn’t had a chance to create an online platform to promote their business. They tasked me with leading the UX/UI design portion of the project to establish their online presence and drive customers to their business.

RESEARCH & DISCOVERY

In the research and discovery phase, I established a user-centric approach. I created a content outline to guide wireframes, ensuring cohesion and a clear hierarchy of information. User flows were used to understand navigation paths, identify potential pain points, and optimise the overall user journey. A user questionnaire also enriched my understanding of user needs, expectations, and preferences, aligning the final product with user requirements.

DESIGN PROCESS

Transitioning to the design phase, I came up with a brief branding identity, consisting of a logo, colour palette, typography, and photography, along with branding guidelines. For the low-fidelity wireframes, I laid out the content, highlighting intuitive category navigation and easy access to the search bar. The product page, an essential element in converting interest to purchase, was designed with high-quality images and clear specifications. Clear calls-to-action and prominently displayed pricing information were integral elements of the design.

PROTOTYPES

The prototype process focused on refining the user booking journey and the product search journey. A clear 'Explore' CTA on the homepage guides users through product exploration and purchase initiation. Transparency in pricing and booking confirmations were implemented to establish trust and assurance.

The product search journey prioritised efficiency and user satisfaction, incorporating a search bar with autocomplete functionality, filters on the product listing page, and responsive design for optimal user experience across devices. Regular user testing and feedback collection would play an important role in refining these design choices, ensuring alignment with the specific needs and preferences of the target audience.

CONCLUSION

Humble Homeware was an informative project into researching and designing a user-centric e-commerce experience for a fictional homeware store. Balancing aesthetic appeal with intuitive functionality, the design focused on showcasing diverse products and facilitating a seamless booking journey for a middle-class demographic. This project positively contributes to my expertise, refining skills in user-centric design, strategic wireframing, and responsive design implementation, resulting in an aesthetically captivating and functionally intuitive online platform.
