Cultural Moment Campaigns for a Functional Drink Brand

Game Day, Halloween and Black Friday Emails for a DTC Alcohol-Alternative Brand

Overview

Designed three campaign emails for a functional drink brand, each built around a different moment in the calendar: game day, Halloween, and Black Friday.
Each moment called for a different approach. The game day email sells through occasion, the Halloween email leads with content and recipes, and the Black Friday email builds demand before the sale begins. Together they show how one brand can show up across very different cultural moments while staying recognisable in every inbox.

Context

The brand’s product fits naturally into social moments: watching the game, hosting a Halloween night, celebrating with friends. These are the times people already reach for a drink.
That makes the calendar one of the brand’s strongest marketing tools. Each moment gives subscribers a ready-made reason to buy, as long as the email connects the product to the occasion in a way that feels natural.

The Challenge

Calendar-driven campaigns often:
Add a themed graphic to a standard promotional layout
Use the same discount-led structure for every occasion
Feel interchangeable from one month to the next
These emails needed to:
Give each moment its own visual world and tone
Match the campaign type to the occasion, whether selling, educating, or building anticipation
Keep the brand palette, product styling, and CTAs consistent throughout
Make the product feel like part of the occasion

Strategic Approach

Each email was matched to the role its moment plays in the buying cycle:
Game Day → Occasion-led selling: the right drink for the match
Halloween → Content-led engagement: recipes that give subscribers a reason to open
Black Friday → Pre-sale anticipation: build the list before the doors open

Campaign Overview

Email 1 — No Game Day Is Complete Without A Drink In Hand

Purpose: Connect the product to the game day occasion
The hero places the headline over a football pitch, with “Grab Yours Before Kickoff” painted onto the turf like field markings, and a drink sitting on the sideline. The occasion is set before a single product appears.
It focuses on:
A pitch-side hero that establishes the setting instantly
Short social copy built on FOMO: everyone’s getting drinks
A four-flavour grid where each description is written for the game, from “keeps you on the edge of your seat” to “tastes better after a win”
Matching CTAs at the hero and after the grid

Email 2 — Spooky Edition: Magic Cocktail Recipes #5

Purpose: Drive engagement through useful, seasonal content
Part of an ongoing recipe series, this email gives subscribers four Halloween drinks to make, each built around a different flavour.
It highlights:
A dark, pumpkin-lit hero with a playful “Pick Your Potion” CTA
Four themed recipes, such as Vampire’s Kiss and Witches’ Brew, each with a clear ingredient list, product pairing, and its own CTA
Varied button copy across recipes (Mix This Up, Brew Yours, Make This Cocktail) to keep the long scroll lively
A visual serving guide that makes product use easy to understand at a glance

Email 3 — Make It A Black Friday To Remember

Purpose: Build an early access list ahead of the sale
This email runs before the sale itself. Its job is to get subscribers to raise their hand so they’re first in when the offer goes live.
It focuses on:
Overlapping “Black Friday Sale” tape bands framing the headline, creating energy and urgency
A clear secondary line, “Start By Saving A Seat,” that explains the action
Exclusivity copy positioning early access as limited to a lucky few
One repeated CTA, Join Early Access, so the email has a single goal

Design System

Brand palette of deep green, pink, and orange, flexed to suit each moment: pitch greens for game day, deep browns and orange for Halloween, bold orange and green for Black Friday
Bold sans-serif headlines across all three for consistency, with themed display type used inside imagery
Product shown as finished drinks in glassware, carried across every campaign
Rounded cream containers holding key content, giving long emails a calm reading rhythm
Themed props (pumpkins, branches, citrus, berries) breaking container edges to add movement
Pink CTAs used consistently, with black secondary buttons for recipe-level actions in the Halloween email

Conversion Thinking

Occasion framing so the product feels like part of a moment people already have planned
Content before commerce in the recipe email, earning attention and showing new ways to use the product
Single-goal design for the early access email, with one action repeated and nothing competing with it
Contextual product copy written for the occasion rather than generic flavour descriptions
Multiple entry points in the recipe email, with a CTA attached to each recipe

Outcome

The three campaigns show how a brand can use its calendar as a consistent reason to show up in the inbox, with each email designed around what the moment actually needs. Selling, educating, and building anticipation each get their own structure, while the visual system keeps every send recognisable as the same brand.
