Hi Honey - The Sjögren’s Companion

Mobile Product Design · iOS / Android · AI-powered Health App

Overview

Hi Honey is a mobile-first wellness companion designed for people living with Sjögren’s syndrome, a chronic autoimmune condition affecting millions globally. The app helps users log meals, track symptoms, understand AI-generated health patterns, and share meaningful insights with their care team — all through a calm, supportive, non-clinical experience.
I designed the core product experience and visual foundation, focusing on simplicity for brain-fog days, emotional warmth, and scalable design systems for rapid iteration.

The Problem

People living with Sjögren’s often experience:
Brain fog and fatigue
Difficulty tracking symptoms consistently
Frustration with cold, clinical health apps
Data overload without clear, actionable insights
Most existing tools feel like medical dashboards — complex, sterile, and mentally taxing.
The challenge: How might we design a health app that feels like a supportive friend, not a hospital interface, while still delivering powerful AI-driven insights?

Design Goals

Minimal cognitive load: simple enough for the foggiest days
Warm, human tone: “Hi Honey,” not “Patient ID #123”
Forgiving interactions: low pressure, easy recovery
Clear insight delivery: patterns explained, not just shown
Scalable system: able to expand to 60–80 screens efficiently

My Role

Lead Mobile Product Designer
Established brand visual language and tone
Designed hero screens and core flows
Built a scalable component system for engineering handoff
Designed AI insight “Trigger Cards” with explainability
Created localization-ready layouts (EN / zh-CN)

Design Approach

I treated Hi Honey as a daily emotional companion, not a utility.
Key principles:
Soft neutrals and warm pastels to reduce visual stress
Large touch targets and generous spacing
Card-based layouts to chunk information
Clear hierarchy with minimal text
Gentle iconography and friendly micro-moments
Every decision asked one question:
“Would this feel manageable on a bad day?”

Core Screen: Dashboard & AI Insights

The attached screen shows the Dashboard, the heart of the app.
Features designed:
Quick actions for meal logging, symptom check-ins, and sleep
AI Trigger Cards that surface patterns like food reactions or sleep correlations
Confidence indicators to explain AI certainty
Clear “why” explanations to build trust in insights
Instead of overwhelming users with charts, insights are delivered as short, human-readable stories.

Key Flows Designed

Meal logging (photo + voice-first capture)
Symptom check-ins (tap & slide interactions)
Sleep hygiene tracking
AI pattern recognition & insight cards
Daily plan & adherence tracking
Care-team sharing & export-ready views
Onboarding and empty states designed for reassurance

Design System & Scalability

To support fast product growth, I created:
A color system optimized for accessibility and calm
Typography scale with clear hierarchy
Reusable components (cards, badges, inputs, buttons)
iOS-aligned interaction patterns for React Native
Localization-ready spacing and layout rules
This foundation enables rapid generation of 60–80 screens without visual drift.

Outcome

A warm, non-clinical health app experience
Clear AI insights users can understand and trust
A scalable design system ready for engineering handoff
A product that reduces friction for people managing chronic illness

Reflection

Designing Hi Honey reinforced the importance of empathy over complexity. In health products, clarity is care, and good design can genuinely improve daily life.
