Introduction

Indie-Fi is a passion project developed to help music fans take the guesswork out of which bands and artists in their city are on their way to being “the next big thing.” Artists can use Indie-Fi to streamline their process for creating content, promoting shows, and making lasting connections with fans.

Identify the problem

The disconnect between independent artists, music fans, and venues in the music industry.

The background

After seeing a sharp decrease in concert attendance at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, live music is returning with a bang! “Events promotion giant Live Nation had earlier said that “2022 is on track to be the biggest year in live music history.” Artists need a way to capitalize on this new momentum. Fans need a way to ensure they aren’t missing out on new up and coming artists and venues in their city.

The solution

A digital platform that connects fans, independent artists, and venues.

Key insights

Fans want to support local artists and venues but don’t attend as many local shows as they would like because they don’t know where to look for artists and venues that match their vibe. The primary way fans discover local artists is through word of mouth.
Artists love what they do but the demands of the industry have changed. On top of writing and performing great songs, they have to juggle content creation and a social media presence as well. Artists unanimously agreed that they wished they could spend less time on social media and self-promotion and more time on making and performing music.
Platforms like Bandsintown do a great job of informing fans what artists are playing near them but lesser known artists and venues are often overshadowed by the industry giants. There is no widely used digital resource that prioritizes independent artists and venues in an interactive and engaging way.

Define

Key solutions

Based on my research, my 3 primary priorities became artist discovery, venue discovery, and an extensive calendar of live performances in participating markets.

My goal was to create a one-stop digital platform for fans to connect with and discover artists, find a show they are excited about attending, and learn about the venue.
