Anemoia: A Paper-Collage Explainer Film That Loops Forever

Supreme Dream

Supreme Dream

Short-form video rewards one thing above all: the viewer watching again. Anemoia is built so the end of the film is the start of the film, and the idea is worth a second look anyway.
Anemoia is a self-initiated studio film, not client work.

The brief

Make an introspective explainer for vertical feeds that feels handmade, carries a real idea in under 40 seconds, and earns a replay. The topic: anemoia, the feeling of missing a time you never lived in.
The hook: the first three seconds set the question, name the word, and spell it out in cut-out letters

The idea

Tell it the way an editor would cut a paper-collage explainer. Torn paper in mustard, navy, red and sage. Duotone cut-outs in an archive style, generated as images and then cut and toned in code. A caption strip that lands word by word with the voice. The story moves from the 1688 Basel dissertation that first named nostalgia as a disease, through the scholarship that reframed it as longing, to research that treats it as an act of imagination.
The history: the 1688 dissertation, the date, and a soldier far from home, the case the word was coined for

The turn: what people actually miss, a pair of hands holding a photo, and a figure standing in a modern street

How it is built

Every frame is composed in code at 2160 by 3840 and encoded to a 4K master plus a 1080 by 1920 delivery file. The voice was chosen from five local text-to-speech auditions, then aligned word by word, and every cut in the film is timed from those word timings. Swap the voice and the whole film re-times itself without re-authoring a single shot.
The audio is mixed to a loudness of about minus 14 LUFS and the loop seam is sample-exact. Both masters passed automated freeze-frame, black-frame and loudness checks, and the cut went through three review rounds before it was final.
The loop: the closing line runs into the opening line, so the film plays as one continuous thought on repeat

The pipeline: voice, alignment, timeline, render, mix and verification, with no hand-set timings

What a client gets

An explainer that looks made by hand and behaves like software. Your story in a strong editorial style, cut to a voice, delivered in 4K and in feed-ready vertical, with a pipeline that makes a new voice or a new language a re-render instead of a re-edit.

A 38.8 second vertical essay film on missing a time you never lived in. Torn paper, duotone cut-outs, kinetic captions and a loop with no visible join.
