MaQtab

A mobile app that helps users learn to read the Qur’an correctly using the Qaidah Nuraniyah method. MaQtab combines learning with modern design to deliver a focused, accessible, and spiritually mindful experience.

Project Overview

Learning to read the Quran can feel overwhelming, but what if users had a guide by their side at every step? Maqtab is more than just an educational app, it's a companion designed with beginners in mind, using the Qaidah Nuraniah method to build a strong foundation. And with smart reminders, it helps users stay committed to your Khatam goals, no matter where you are on your journey.
Project Goals: Designing a structured, user-friendly, and engaging learning experience for reading the Al-Quran, while integrating a seamless Khatam tracking and reminder system to help users stay consistent in their Quran reading journey.

The Solutions

Maqtab provides a solution to help users learn to read the Al-Quran effectively and maintain consistency in their recitation by:
Enhancing user experience (UX) – Creating an intuitive and engaging learning platform for reading Quran.
Implementing Qaidah Quraniah video lessons – Offering step-by-step guided learning through structured instructional videos.
Integrating a smart Khatam tracking system – Helping users set personalized reading goals and receive reminders for consistency.

Success Metrics

This thoughtful user experience translated into real business value and product validation:
10,000+ total downloads, indicating strong market interest and successful user acquisition
5,000+ daily active users, reflecting high engagement and product stickiness
30%+ D7 retention and 10%+ D30 retention, proving long-term user satisfaction and product-market fit

The Problem

Many Muslims want to learn to read the Qur’an, but face four key challenges:
Lack of Clear Guidance Beginners struggle without a structured, easy-to-follow method — leading to confusion and early dropout.
Limited Access to Teachers Not everyone can learn directly from a teacher, a flexible digital solution is urgently needed.
Low Motivation & Inconsistency Without reminders or goal-setting, users often lose momentum and abandon their Qur’an journey.
No Progress Visibility Users have no way to track improvement or celebrate small wins, making long-term commitment difficult.

Key Decisions

Optimizing Learning Structure – Designing a step-by-step curriculum with Qaidah Quraniah video lessons to ensure users can progress smoothly from beginner to advanced levels, making learning more effective and engaging.
Enhancing User Engagement Features – Implementing smart Khatam reminders, progress tracking, and interactive exercises to help users stay consistent and motivated in their Quran reading journey.
Ensuring an Intuitive and Smooth User Experience – Creating a user-friendly interface with clear navigation and seamless interactions to enhance usability and engagement.

The Process

User Research To understand user behavior, we conduct in-depth interviews and then translate the findings into a Mental Model.
Future/New Mental Model An overview of the idea, solution, and user journey within the application we are going to create, based on the previously defined user mental model.
Information Architecture This is followed by structuring to help organize the app's content and features, ensuring that users can easily find the information they need. The sequence of information focuses on logically arranging content based on user priorities.
Wireframe Lo-fi design and happy flow are developed based on the draft of the information architecture and layout, presented in the form of wireframes.
Final UI Design Creating a UI Design using a Design System.

Learnings

Empathy beats complexity The best solutions are often not the smartest features, but the ones that feel most comfortable and emotionally relevant.
Spiritual UX needs a gentle touch Small affirmations and peaceful visuals can offer powerful motivation for users.
Islamic design is more than aesthetics It must be embedded in the structure and language of the experience
