Anti-fascist speech

This is a speech that I wrote for some students that needed it for anti-fascist manifestations. An Italian newspaper, Repubblica, has also cited it.

This is a speech that I wrote in both Italian and English, following the two versions.

Names, those of the millions of deaths of Nazi fascism are just names, which tell us nothing because they are ghosts of a horrible past, but too far away in time and ideas. A past that is difficult to imagine and unfortunately, for many, easy to forget.

Yet this past too many times knocks us on the door: a sticker on a pole, a swastika on a wall, an insult, violence. Events that should be confined to the past and that instead happen every day around us, an example of these episodes is the aggression by militants of a fascist organization that took place two weeks ago at the Giordano Bruno high school, where only two students were attacked. for removing a sticker attacked by this organization on the school gate; are events that have only one name: fascism, a type of fascism that's not made of ghosts, but present today, which we must know and fight, always, in any case, and everywhere, starting from the schools where too often Nazi-fascism is presented as a problem of the past and it does not raise awareness of what it is and what must be done to counter it, however, today.

Fascism which is in all its forms a blasphemy, a very serious insult to the millions of deaths it has caused, to the values ​​of our republic and our constitution, to those who resisted and to those who, thanks to this resistance, live in a country free and democratic: that is all of us. As Pertini said: "With my political opponent I can have a dialogue or a clash but it will always be a moment of growth for both of us, but with the fascist there can be no dialogue because fascism is the cancellation of the rights of others".

Every single, minimal, expression of Nazi-Fascist thinking is an insult to each of us, and so we invite everyone to come and demonstrate on the 25th in the afternoon (more precise indications) to reiterate, once again, that Turin and its students are ANTI-FASCISTS.

Nomi, sono solo nomi quelli dei milioni di morti del nazifascismo, che non ci dicono niente, perché sono fantasmi di un passato orribile, ma troppo lontano nel tempo e nelle idee, un passato che è difficile da immaginare e purtroppo, per molti, facile da dimenticare.

Eppure questo passato troppe volte ci bussa alla porta: uno stiker su un palo, una svastica su un muro, un insulto, una violenza. Eventi che dovrebbero essere confinati nel passato e che invece accadono ogni giorno intorno a noi, è un esempio di questi episodi l'aggressione da parte di militanti di un organizzazione fascista avvenuta due settimane fa al liceo Giordano Bruno, dove due studenti sono stati aggrediti solo per aver rimosso uno stiker attaccato da quest'organizzazione sul cancello della scuola; sono eventi che hanno un nome solo: fascismo, un fascismo non fatto di fantasmi, ma presente oggi, che bisogna conoscere e combattere, sempre, comunque e dovunque, a partire dalle scuole dove troppo spesso il nazifascismo viene presentato come un problema del passato e non si sensibilizza su cos'è e cosa si deve fare per contrastarlo, invece, ai giorni nostri.

Fascismo che è in ogni sua forma una bestemmia, un gravissimo insulto ai milioni di morti che esso ha provocato, ai valori della nostra repubblica e della nostra costituzione, a chi ha fatto la resistenza e a chi, grazie a questa resistenza, vive in un paese libero e democratico: e cioè tutti noi. Come diceva Pertini: "Col mio avversario politico posso avere un dialogo o uno scontro ma sarà sempre un momento di crescita per entrambi, ma col fascista non può esserci dialogo perchè il fascismo è l’annullamento dei diritti degli altri".

Ogni singola, minima, espressione del pensiero nazifascista è un insulto ad ognuno di noi ,e allora invitiamo tutti a venire a manifestare il 25 pomeriggio (indicazioni più precise) per ribadire, ancora una volta, che Torino e i suoi studenti sono ANTIFASCISTI.
