I selected the brand colors and typography and designed the website for my own company, Great and Small Dog Care, a dog day care, walking, and training company based in London.
We wanted a brand voice that was friendly and approachable, but still clean, professional, and not overly juvenile (as some pet-focused brands can be). Our two primary brand colors are turquoise and pale yellow, as blue is a calming, reassuring color, and yellow is cheerful and energetic. We want our clients to feel that we are trustworthy and that our services are a great way for their dogs to have fun.
For typography, I selected two clean sans serif fonts for easy readability. For any text we want to be especially prominent, we use Nunito as the rounded edges of the letters contribute to a clean yet soft appearance. For body text we use Open Sans, as this light and angular font works well for larger blocks of text where the thicker and rounded Nunito might be overwhelming.
All of these stylistic decisions were implemented to the website design, which was created with Wordpress (see Home page design below). To avoid having too much turquoise or yellow (as both of these colors are quite bright), I added white space to break up the blocks of color.
We also used icons wherever possible throughout the site to easily categorize information for clients to quickly understand, particularly in the "Why Choose Us?" section (see below).

Additionally, we wanted the site to be full of photos of our clients' happy dogs, so we incorporated photos to every page of the website and also integrated our Instagram feed to the site Home page for a photo area that would be constantly updated without us needing to manually update the site (see below).

On both the Home and Contact pages of the site, there is a contact form (protected with reCAPTCHA for security) so that clients can easily enquire about our services (see Contact page below).
Each page of the site also includes frequently placed calls to action in yellow that link to our Contact page so that clients can get in touch with us easily from wherever they are on the site. For GDPR compliance, the site has a privacy policy and accompanying cookie consent banner, and for ease of use I also integrated a back to top button throughout the site. All of this can be seen on the site Home page linked above in this project description: the privacy policy is linked in the site's footer, the cookie consent banner is indicated by the small circular turquoise cookie icon on the left, and the back to top button is the gray "up" arrow button on the right.
To showcase some of the positive feedback we've gotten from our clients, we also added a clickable testimonials slider to the site both on the Home and Reviews pages (see below).
For clients to easily reference our FAQs and find the answer only to the question they are looking for without needing to read other irrelevant details, I created a toggle-down style FAQs page (see below).
We wrote all of the content for our website ourselves. Overall, the entire project (content creation and website design) took about 4-6 weeks.
