MTV has always been giving a platform to the LGBTQ+ community, so when June 2021 came up, it was without a question, that we had to celebrate PRIDE on our German social media channels as well. But we didn't just wanna celebrate but also shine a light on other factors that influence coming out as LGBTQ+ around the world.

The Spark ✨

We asked our UK team to work together on this project - focusing on the Coming Out Stories of young Changemakers. Paramount research shows that knowing someone in the LGBTQ+ community makes a person far more likely to support the LGBTQ+ equality movement.
Thus Out! Loud! Proud! was born

The Concept

Timeline: Production in May, Rollout June - August (because PRIDE does not end with the month of June) Budget: 15k Deliverables: For Germany we produced 6 episodes which had to be delivered in 9x16 and 1x1 format (to be used on all relevant platforms) and with both German and English subtitles (for accessibility). Every episode had to be delivered in a long version (up to 3 min) and short version (under 1 min for TikTok)
With a mix of modern visuals and the interview set the talents the talent will describe the impact their coming out has had on the communities that follow them. The Video will be divides by graphics in the sections "Out" (storytime) "Loud" (why the story matters) "Proud (why their story makes them proud)

Coming out is not always possible for everyone, so our messaging will continue to include positive and inclusive messaging around how coming out is a personal choice, and often circumstance-dependent.

The Team

At MTV we always strive to have diversity in front of the camera, but also behind. Especially for this project it was very important to me, to find a producer who is part of the community and knows its in and outs.
Therefor I connected to Eva Mikelatou, a Berlin based queer counselor and producer, so she could get together a divers team, so all our talents feel comfortable to share their stories.

The Cast

Together we came up with a catalog of questions and started research for our Cast. It was most important to have a divers cast to ensure spectrum among contributors. It’s important to try to give a voice to those whose stories often go underrepresented too.. We planned two shooting days, so every talent had time to share their story and because of covid measurements.
