Mastering Mindfulness and Creativity

The imagination of a man is one with a wide spectrum, large enough to contain as many thoughts as possible. It is a known fact that not all memories and experiences can be brought into remembrance, especially with advancement in age. While distractions are paramount in ensuring that some viable experiences are concealed, we have the ability to coordinate thoughts and be more observant. With the hurdles and challenges life throws at us, one may think it is almost impossible to notice everything happening around you. From the sound to the light, a life revolving around the elements that keep us bound, that keep us more alive. A life capable of creating because we have the ability to bring into existence, that which seems far fetched.
Why is it that some memories seem blurred out and somewhat inaudible to the mind? Sometimes, you try so hard to remember certain experiences, while others are shoved under the carpet in deliberation. The latter is answerable to the saying; “keep the good, erase the bad”. A person is accountable for how they feel and what exactly is being felt.
There are many diverse ways to be in touch with your emotions, and in turn become mindful of certain things going on around you. At some point everyone’s been at a place where you’re caught off guard, staring into blank space and lose track of what you are doing. Or being at a crossroad between the highs and lows and wind up in a shell of taciturnity.
Mindfulness is an act that requires progressive effort and just like a ladder, there are stepping stones to getting to your final destination. Although there is no particular destination with mindfulness, you only progress and ensure stability with the progress made.
Here are some key factors to mastering the art of mindfulness:
NOTICE THE MIRACLES AROUND YOU: There’s something special about gratitude for certain opportunities and access (grace). It’s what I call a miracle and it’s easy to ignore loads of miracles that happen everyday. It could be as little as someone sharing their lunch to being shown some love on a really bad day. Take time to observe and do not relent on being grateful because even the smallest gestures still count as blessings.
EXPLORE YOUR CREATIVITY: In every person, there’s a spark of creativity and it’s in your place to either nurture it or let it wither away. Being in touch with your creativity and developing it alone makes you accountable for how you channel your energy and garner your emotions. Art itself keeps the mind healthy; whether it is painting, writing, drawing or music, it keeps your mind in tune with nature.
KEEP A JOURNAL: writing is the easiest way to be mindful. Keeping a journal gives you the best opportunity to write what you notice around you. It could be a book you carry along with you wherever you go and you may notice the clouds got a little hazy or the way the rain trickled in slow motion. These are the experiences that make you more aware and in turn, mindful. Be sure to capture them.
PRACTICE STOP, LOOK, BREATHE, CREATE: these count as some elements of meditation. Meditating opens your mind to the reality of a new world and shuts out excesses. Rowdy thoughts that just seem like noise are carefully distilled, which helps in focusing only on what you decide on thinking about. Now, not a lot of people have the patience to meditate which brings me to suggest that creativity indulges the mind far greater than meditation. However, do what works best for you.
The whole process makes no sense if you are not practically involved. Be deliberate about being mindful, or whatever you’re doing. In the end, it’s the changes we make that determine the outcome of results we obtain.
