I helped Headway move beyond passive content consumption toward deeper engagement, habit-building, and personal knowledge retention. Headway is a mobile app that helps users learn from book summaries in a simple and engaging way.ьAs a Product Designer, I worked on gamification, social features, and tools for saving and revisiting ideas — helping users build learning habits instead of passively consuming content. My focus was to improve engagement and retention through product experiments, MVPs, user insights, and metrics-driven design decisions. Focus Areas 1. Gamification & Habit Building I designed mechanics that encouraged users to build consistent learning habits, including daily missions, streaks, progress-based experiences, and motivational loops. 2. Social Features & Community Exploration I explored whether users wanted to interact around book insights through comments, discussions, and topic-based experiences. One MVP showed a 4% participation rate: most users read comments but didn’t contribute. This helped us learn that users preferred deeper, expert-driven knowledge over casual chatter.
3. Capturing & Revisiting Ideas I worked on tools that helped users save meaningful ideas while listening and return to them later. The first iteration included audio highlights, transcription, saved highlights in the player.
Impact Across these directions, I helped the team validate which engagement mechanics created real user value and which ones didn’t. This work shows how I connect product design with user behavior, MVP testing, and business metrics — designing not just screens, but systems that support long-term engagement.
