Project Overview

Northstar Fulfillment is an independent concept for a modern U.S. third-party logistics (3PL) and ecommerce fulfillment company.
Unlike the other website concepts in this portfolio, this project was designed as a complete multi-page web experience, with working navigation and supporting product-style flows rather than a single marketing homepage.
The central idea was to design the experience from the perspective of the brand owner evaluating a 3PL — someone who needs to understand operational fit, capabilities, technology, inventory, returns, locations, pricing and onboarding before trusting a fulfillment partner with their business.

The Challenge

Choosing a 3PL can be surprisingly difficult.
A growing ecommerce brand may be comparing multiple providers while trying to answer questions such as:
Can they handle my volume? Where will my inventory be stored? What platforms can I connect? How visible will my operations be? Can they handle returns, bundles or special packaging? What happens when something goes wrong? How do I know they're actually the right fit for my business?
The concept was designed around reducing that uncertainty.
Rather than presenting fulfillment as a collection of warehouse services, the website treats the 3PL as an operational partner and technology layer behind the brand.

Goals

Position Northstar as a modern, technology-enabled fulfillment partner
Help brands quickly determine whether the service is a fit
Make complex fulfillment operations easier to understand
Communicate capabilities without creating information overload
Build trust through transparency, process and operational visibility
Make services relevant to different brand types and channels
Give prospective clients a clear path from evaluation to quote
Create a cohesive experience across marketing, education and operational touchpoints

Strategy & UX

The experience was built around the actual decision journey of a brand evaluating a 3PL:
Discover → Understand → Compare → Build confidence → Request a quote

Fit before sales

One of the key interactions helps a brand assess fit based on factors such as order volume, product type and fulfillment needs.
Instead of immediately pushing a sales CTA, the experience first helps answer:
“Is Northstar right for me?”

Operational clarity

Fulfillment is broken into understandable areas:
Storage → Inventory → Pick & Pack → Ship → Returns
This gives non-logistics users a clear mental model of what happens behind every order.

Technology as part of the value proposition

The site doesn't treat technology as a secondary feature.
Inventory visibility, order management, integrations and operational reporting are presented as part of the fulfillment experience itself.

Multiple business models

The information architecture accounts for brands operating across:
DTC
B2B
marketplaces
subscriptions
multiple sales channels

Trust through transparency

Instead of relying only on marketing claims, the experience provides useful information around:
locations
integrations
returns
onboarding
pricing factors
operational workflows
FAQs
order tracking
This makes the website feel closer to a decision-making tool than a conventional company brochure.

Information Architecture

The website was intentionally expanded beyond a single landing page into a complete ecosystem.
Core areas include:
Solutions Fulfillment, inventory, returns, kitting, B2B, marketplace operations and related services.
How It Works A clear journey from connecting a store to receiving inventory, fulfillment and ongoing operations.
Technology Inventory visibility, operational dashboards and ecommerce integrations.
Industries Different requirements across apparel, beauty, consumer goods, subscriptions and other brand types.
Locations Geographic fulfillment strategy and facility coverage.
Resources Guides and educational content helping brands evaluate fulfillment decisions.
Track A customer-facing order-tracking experience.
Quote A structured multi-step fulfillment inquiry designed to gather useful operational information.

Key Experience Sections

“Does Northstar fit your brand?” An interactive qualification experience built around the buyer's operational profile.
“When your 3PL becomes the bottleneck” Frames common fulfillment frustrations and creates a natural transition into Northstar's capabilities.
Inventory visibility Shows how brands can understand inventory across locations instead of treating fulfillment as a black box.
U.S. fulfillment network A geographic visualization showing how inventory placement can support delivery strategy.
Industry-specific needs Moves beyond a generic service list and explains how fulfillment requirements change by business type.
Multi-channel fulfillment Shows DTC, B2B, marketplaces and subscriptions flowing through one operational system.
Returns workflow Makes the often-overlooked reverse logistics experience visible.
Kitting & special projects Shows how fulfillment can support bundles, subscription boxes, launch kits and custom packaging.
Customer experience Connects backend fulfillment decisions with what the end customer actually experiences.
Pricing / quote flow Instead of displaying arbitrary flat pricing, the website explains the operational factors that influence a fulfillment plan and guides the visitor toward a tailored quote.
Order tracking A separate customer-facing experience demonstrates what post-purchase visibility can look like.

Visual Direction

The brand system was designed to combine industrial precision with modern technology.
The interface uses:
deep charcoal/navy foundations
warm neutral backgrounds
cyan as the primary action accent
restrained typography
structured grids
clean data visualization
subtle borders and dividers
minimal decorative effects
The design deliberately avoids the stereotypical warehouse aesthetic of forklifts, boxes and generic logistics photography dominating every section.
Instead, the interface communicates:
Precision. Visibility. Reliability. Control.

Design System

The project uses a deliberately restrained UI system rather than introducing a new visual treatment for every section.
The system covers:
Typography Color Spacing Buttons Forms Cards Navigation Data visualization Timelines Tables Tabs Accordions CTAs
The visual language remains consistent across marketing pages and product-like operational experiences.

Responsive Design

The website was designed as a responsive product rather than simply a desktop website scaled down.
The experience adapts across:
Desktop → Laptop → Tablet → Mobile
Particular attention was given to:
navigation
operational dashboards
maps
forms
multi-column layouts
information density
CTA visibility
The goal was to preserve clarity without sacrificing the amount of operational information a serious 3PL website needs to communicate.

Outcome

The result is a complete multi-page 3PL website experience that combines:
Brand → Education → Qualification → Operational transparency → Trust → Conversion
The project demonstrates how a logistics company can use its website not merely as a company profile, but as a sales, education and trust-building layer for brands evaluating fulfillment partners.
Unlike a traditional brochure-style website, Northstar was designed to answer the questions a prospective client is likely to have before they ever speak to sales.
