"Catarsis" is a contemporary dance short film that explores the liberation of the body as a vehicle for expression and emotional purification. Through intense and meaning-laden movements, the dancer transforms her repressed desires and deep emotions into a visual narrative that pierces the mind and soul. Inspired by the concept of “catharsis”-as a process of purging and rebirth-this project uses dance as a visceral language that connects the internal to the external, leading the viewer to reflect on their own struggles and liberation.

Project Details:

Goal: To represent the transformative process of facing and releasing repressed desires and emotions, using dance as a vehicle to convey an emotional and universal narrative.

Creative Process: Initial meeting with a small team of two people. Decision to use contemporary dance as the central axis; the concept of “catarsis” emerged during the recordings.

Challenges: Although there were no major technical complications, renting the studio and setting up the lights were aspects that required time and coordination.​​​​​​​

Methodology:

Recording in a private studio with a small crew (camerawoman, dancer, and lighting). The dancer was allowed to flow to capture organic and emotional movements.

Tools: Canon camera and Arri lights, which allowed for a high quality professional finish.

Collaboration and Feedback: During the process, spontaneous ideas and contributions from those involved in the project were valued and enriched the final result.

Result: With an intimate atmosphere and an aesthetic that combines light and shadow, Catharsis offers a sensory experience designed to awaken raw emotions and reflect on the beauty that lies in human chaos.
