The Problem:

The client currently had a website that integrated with Eventbrite via custom code, however the website was unable to be updated as the custom code would break when updates were loaded. This caused major problems for the security of the website, resulting in their site being hijacked and malicious code installed in the back-end PHP. Serparate to this, the client wanted to freshen the brand and build a new site that would cut out Eventbrite all-together, resulting in them having full control of events and ticket pricing.

The Solution:

To resolve the issue as efficiently as possible, the best outcome was to build a new website on a staging environment. From there we would then finalise all components of the build and only migrate to a new website host provider once the project was complete. This ensured us that there were no traces of malicious code lurking as a result of their site hack, and thus clean databases were used. Minimal plugins and custom code would also be required, as to not replicate the issue moving forward and ensure customer data was secure and compliant.
I would also look into event management plugins to remove the reliance on Eventbrite and handle all payments directly via Woocommerce + Stripe.

The Results:

I built a custom website that aligned with the clients existing branding, modernising their design and UX to better engage with their event attendee's and target audience. This site utilised minimal plugins to manage sales via Woocommerce + Stripe integration, with events setup and maintained via the EventIn plugin. The site additionally kept some custom code that interacted with event listings, with conditional rules that fired when no events were active to always drive a CTA (call to action) for the end user. This resulted in a more uniform customer experience, as users were retained on the site and were no longer forced to leave the site to complete transactions elsewhere. Varying levels of 2FA were also built into the site, ensuring the security of the site with backups regularly taken from the newly chosen host provider.
