Solver Chat — An International Homework-Help Pilot

Role: Product Discovery & MVP Strategy Focus: Conversational UX · User Research · Service Design

Overview

Solver Chat was a conversational homework-help experience that let students ask questions through familiar messaging channels. The project combined customer research, a chatbot-first MVP and a lightweight launch to understand how students would enter and use the service.

The Challenge

Homework help needed to be accessible at the moment a student encountered a difficult question. A standalone mobile app would add a download and onboarding step before students could try the experience. The team explored how to deliver a useful first interaction through channels students already used.

My Contribution

I led English-language student discovery and mapped the experience for students and the people handling incoming questions. I also contributed to the MVP concept, first-launch visual identity and acquisition experiments.
User research: conducted student interviews to understand study habits, motivations and barriers to asking for help.
Competitive research: reviewed alternatives and the ways they introduced their services.
Service design: mapped the student journey alongside the supporting operator workflow.
MVP concept: shaped the first interaction around submitting a real question rather than browsing product features.
Visual direction: developed initial brand and app concepts to support the pilot.

The Experience

Make the first action useful

Students could begin with a homework question rather than setting up a full account or learning a new interface.

Meet students in familiar channels

The chatbot-first journey was designed for messaging and embedded chat surfaces, including Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp.

Connect conversation to service delivery

The visible chat was one part of the workflow. Research and service mapping informed what happened after a question arrived, how it was handled and how the conversation continued.

Test the interaction before expanding the product

The team used the initial experience and acquisition experiments to explore demand and refine the next product iterations.

Delivered Work

The project produced student interview findings, competitor research, student and operator journey maps, a chatbot-first MVP concept, first-launch visual materials and a tested conversational service flow.

Outcome

Solver Chat was piloted with students in international markets. The work established a question-submission journey and generated research and usage observations that informed subsequent product decisions.
