DARIA.EXE — Making Decisions Playable

Role: Product Concept · Interaction Design · Browser Implementation Type: Independent interactive game Platform: Desktop & mobile browser

Overview

What makes a decision interesting when the answer is not obvious? DARIA.EXE is a playable investigation game in which every action reveals evidence, changes the situation and brings the player closer to a final call.
I designed and developed the browser experience around the tension between curiosity and commitment: keep investigating, or decide with what you know?

The Design Challenge

Many interactive quizzes guide players toward a preferred answer before they choose. DARIA.EXE takes a different approach. The challenge was to make uncertainty engaging, give clues real consequences and keep the final assessment until after the player has committed.

My Contribution

Product concept: turned decision-making under uncertainty into a playable format.
Game mechanics: designed limited actions, clue discovery, hypothesis changes and early decisions.
Interaction design: created case, evidence and consequence states without pre-choice correctness hints.
Narrative: paced the journey from incident through investigation to final debrief.
Implementation: developed and iterated the responsive browser release.

How It Plays

Start with an incident

Players enter a case that requires judgment. They are given plausible choices rather than a single obvious next step.

Investigate with limited moves

Quick Play presents four possible actions and a three-move budget. Each action reveals a new clue, and players can stop to make their decision early.
Investigation adds a deeper five-move experience with competing hypotheses, evidence classification and contradictions.

Make the call

The interface does not reveal which action or conclusion is correct beforehand. Players weigh the clues they have collected and decide when they have enough information.

See the consequences

A final debrief shows the outcome and helps players understand the evidence behind it, making each case feel like a complete investigation rather than a scored questionnaire.

The Result

DARIA.EXE is publicly playable in a responsive browser release. It includes Quick Play and Investigation modes, evidence discovery, state changes, final decisions and debriefs.
