FAB - THE BIG MOVE

A New Home for Digital Creativity.

THE OBJECTIVE

Visualizing the Migration.
With the launch of Fab, Epic Games is unifying the Unreal Engine Marketplace, Sketchfab, ArtStation, and Quixel into a single, massive content destination. The marketing team needed a visual metaphor to announce this shift. The goal was to communicate "migration" not as a boring file transfer, but as an exciting physical journey. We needed to show that the beloved assets from the old store were being packed up and moved to a bigger, better home.

THE CONCEPT

From the Garage to the Metropolis.
The core creative idea was "The Big Move."
We personified the digital assets as physical objects. The legacy marketplace was represented as a dusty, cluttered mechanic's garage. It had history and character, but it was outgrown. The new Fab platform was represented by the sleek, expansive architecture of the Matrix City.
The narrative arc was simple.
Pack Up: Assets are collected and boxed in the garage.
Transport: A Fab-branded truck carries the cargo through the city.
Arrival: The truck drives toward the futuristic horizon, symbolizing the scale of the new platform.

MY ROLE & EXECUTION

Building the World.
I was responsible for the full visual execution of this sequence, taking it from rough layout to final render.
The Garage Environment: I built the garage interior from scratch. I wanted it to feel lived-in. I used a combination of industrial props and lighting to create a dusty, warm atmosphere that contrasted with the cold blue tones of the city. I manually placed hundreds of marketplace assets—swords, potions, sci-fi crates—into cardboard boxes to make the "packing" process feel tangible.
The Animation Logic: For the packing sequence, I keyframed the assets floating into boxes. I wanted the movement to feel magical but weighty. The challenge was ensuring the diversity of the marketplace was represented, so I included everything from low-poly props to high-fidelity scans.
The City Drive: For the travel sequence, I utilized the Matrix City Sample to save production time. I integrated the custom Fab truck into the city's traffic system. I animated the driving path and the camera work to mimic a high-end car commercial, emphasizing speed and scale. I tweaked the lighting and post-process volume of the city sample to match the specific branding colors of the Fab launch identity.

THE RESULT

A Seamless Transition.
The final piece served as the visual anchor for the blog post and social announcement. It successfully bridged the gap between the nostalgia of the old marketplace and the excitement of the new one. It reassured the community that their assets were safe, while hyping them up for the future of digital content.
