Project overview
Davinci Lab is an AI-driven EdTech startup empowering high school and undergraduate students to publish in peer-reviewed journals and file patents, guided by mentors from top universities like Oxford and Cambridge.
Lumen Studio was tasked with creating a brand identity and website that balances startup energy with academic rigor, honoring the DaVinci name with Renaissance-inspired design while ensuring a modern, trustworthy, and easy-to-navigate user experience.

Blending Renaissance-inspired visuals with modern academic rigor
The challenge for start-up websites: visuals that enhances credibility
As a new player in the AI/EdTech space, Davinci Lab needed a digital presence that could attract ambitious students, gain the trust of educators, and communicate its unique value proposition.
The challenge was to design a website that felt both academically credible and entrepreneurially exciting, while reflecting the sophistication and vision of its founder - a scientist, educator, and entrepreneur with a stellar profile.
How we approached the project
Lumen Studio began by aligning the brand identity with Davinci Lab’s mission and values. We developed a visual style that combines Renaissance motifs with clean, contemporary design elements, creating a memorable and authentic look. The color palette, typography, and iconography were carefully chosen to convey trust, innovation, and intellectual curiosity.
Brand and logo direction
For this project, Lumen Studio led the end‑to‑end brand identity, with the logo as the central anchor. The logo design draws directly from the DaVinci reference, echoing the geometric balance and proportional thinking associated with Leonardo’s work rather than literal illustrations.
This creates a mark that feels:
Intellectually grounded (a nod to mathematics, structure, and rigor).
Contemporary and minimal enough to scale across digital interfaces and product touchpoints.
The supporting visual system extends this idea of “designed intelligence”: sharp lines, precise spacing, and calm but confident typography reinforce the feeling of an organized research ecosystem rather than a generic EdTech platform.
Contemporary logo & design system inspired by DaVinci’s golden ratio
Golden ratio–inspired layout system
A distinctive detail of the Davinci Lab site is the subtle line patterns that appear in the background across sections. These patterns are derived from DaVinci’s golden ratio constructions, translated into a soft grid and line system that:
Adds depth and texture without competing with core content.
Subconsciously communicates order, proportion, and method - key attributes for a research‑driven brand.
By embedding the golden ratio into the background system, the site visually encodes Davinci Lab’s ethos: structured exploration, beauty in logic, and disciplined creativity.
Results and Impact
The resulting brand and website position Davinci Lab as:
Serious enough for institutions and academic partners.
Aspirational and exciting for students who want to do “real” research, not just coursework.
Distinct in a crowded AI/EdTech space, with a visual story that belongs uniquely to the DaVinci name.
Since the launch, Davinci Lab website has received positive feedback from both students and educators, praising its clarity, design, and ease of use. The Renaissance-inspired details have been particularly well-received, adding a unique touch that sets Davinci Lab apart in the crowded EdTech market.
