Welcome to Kalivira Island!

This project was created for the Spline x Contra Hackathon and it was honorably mentioned by the judges!

Process

I started with the main experience in Spline, creating the island, the environment (ocean, sky, lighting) and then the portal through which the camera flies by.

Once I had a rough draft, I embedded the Spline into Framer to start adding UI elements and finalizing the experience.

Optimization

I used Spline's performance test tool to optimize my scene. To reduce the number of objects, I combined a lot of similar objects sharing the same material, like windows and tree trunks. This is something best done only once you're sure you're not going to mess around with your scene anymore (I did find myself messing around with the scene, and it was harder to move trees, haha).

Detailed sunset

In the final part of the experience, the sunset needed a few tweaks. While the sun's angle worked well for most of the scene, I realized no light is hitting the tower to the right. To make it look a bit better, I added another spotlight that turns on only when the sun sets.
