This is a redesign project for my portfolio, created as part of my design training in UXGym. The goal was to create a brand new experience for the German Yahoo! homepage.
To redesign the homepage, I researched the client, conducted a UX audit and based on my findings started working on concepts, wireframes and a final redesign.
The outcome was a cleaner and presentable homepage with a modern look and feel that's more engaging for the client's users.
UX Audit
The first step in auditing a website or an app is to learn about the client, its business goals and the target audience. Then I go over the website and conduct a heuristic evaluation to find design problems. In my analysis I try to see if the design fits the client's goals and the target audience.
For Yahoo!'s homepage, these are the main points I found:
Outdated design - overall, the design could be modernized to match Yahoo!'s strong brand. This may also enable the client to reach new target audience.
Duplicate buttons - The mail button appears on the news navbar to the left and on the top bar on the right. This is a cluttered and unnecessary design.
Confusing icons - without being logged in, the mail and alert buttons don't serve any purpose and can be removed.
Concept
Taking my analysis in mind, along with the business goals and the target audience, I start working on new layout concepts. I draw several concepts to get my creative thinking up and running and so that I can have plenty of options to choose from.
Wireframes
Final Design
I chose the layout that matches best the audit's requirements.
