Velora City & Garden Hotel is an independent, conceptual UX/UI redesign for an urban hotel with a garden in Zurich. The experience is designed for leisure and business travelers who need to explore rooms, understand the hotel’s services, and find a clear path to begin a reservation.
The project focuses on the website experience leading up to booking. The external reservation engine is outside the redesign scope.
The problem
The existing desktop navigation was hidden behind a hamburger menu with too many options. The hotel’s value proposition was not clear enough at the start of the experience, and several sections competed for attention.
Room cards also gave limited space to the details people need to compare options, while the path to booking felt disconnected from browsing the site.
Research and prioritization
I began with a UX audit, heuristic analysis, and benchmark review to identify strengths, friction points, and opportunities.
I prioritized improvements based on their expected impact for guests and their feasibility for the business. Navigation and the hotel’s value proposition became the first priorities.
Process
I defined the core journey from arriving on the website to accessing the booking flow, including room exploration and supporting hotel information. I then developed wireframes and the visual redesign, documenting the rationale through before-and-after comparisons.
Key product areas
Home page and hero section
Desktop navigation
Room categories and room listing
Availability search and booking entry points
Access to Restaurant, Business, Zurich, and About
Design decisions
Made the primary desktop navigation visible.
Added direct access to Rooms, Restaurant, Business, Zurich, and About.
Communicated the hotel’s value proposition in the hero section.
Introduced availability search with dates and guest count on the home page.
Kept “Book Now” visible and added booking entry points throughout exploration.
Redesigned room cards with larger imagery and a consistent hierarchy for name, description, price, and action.
Structured content for faster scanning.
Used deep greens, warm neutrals, gold details, and serif typography to express the hotel’s city-and-garden identity.
Design goals
The redesign aims to make the website easier to navigate and provide a more connected path from discovering the hotel to starting a reservation. These are design objectives, not measured conversion outcomes.
Scope
Velora is an independent, conceptual UX/UI redesign case study. It presents an experience proposal for the Velora brand, not an implemented client website or evidence of measured commercial improvement.
