Direct consumer business models for current and emerging music artists

Problem

Many Established and aspiring artists are failing to promote upcoming projects
The music industry is a complex market that is constantly changing. While social media is a useful tool for promoting music and reaching new audiences, the unpredictable algorithm and fast-paced nature of these platforms can make it difficult for artists to break out and gain recognition. As a result, many musicians struggle to become discovered on these platforms.
To further investigate the problem, I have created a customer journey map to summarise the key interaction touchpoints an artist may encounter during the course of their career. These stages are accompanied by thoughts and feelings which address the motivations, challenges, and the opportunities that effectively meet the end user’s requirements.

Solution

Identify and Target
Key in words that describe your music e.g. mood, style, genre, sound, influence​​
Target the right listeners
Understand the needs and preferences of your audience through analytics tools, trends and sub-genre surveys
Update Fanbase
Promote music by updating existing and potential listeners on upcoming projects
Schedule videos, pictures, live content and Q&A sessions
Showcase personalised content e.g. day in my life videos, creative process, behind the scene footage
Boost Loyalty and Engagement
Open collaborations with talents who have potential in the music industry by posting short teasers of an upcoming project
Build anticipation by generating waitlists for new singles or albums
Interact with fans through exclusive live streams

Brand and Identity

A simple and modern depiction of a soundwave. The sound wave represents the letters 'LY', which is the root of the word 'Lyra'.

End Product

Upon receiving feedback, I identified the need to integrate features that help artists improve their marketing approach and creative direction. The final product offers valuable insights that give artists a better understanding of their audiences and industry niche.
