Project Overview

Gabha na Lámh Fada (roughly "Long Arm Forge") is a traditional blacksmith in Ireland making railings, gates, garden arches, knives and hand-forged homewares to order. The business needed a site that worked like a shop without being one: every piece is made to order, so customers needed to browse, pick options and start a conversation rather than check out. I designed and built the whole site, in English and Irish.

Scope

Brand-led design and full Squarespace build: Home, Work, Services, Products, About and Contact
A made-to-order product catalogue across nine categories, from gates and railings to knives and candle holders
Custom-coded quote flow replacing the cart, plus a separate services inquiry form
Bilingual English and Irish site using Weglot

What I Built

The look draws on Irish uncial lettering, forge greens and ember orange, set over photography of the smith at the anvil. It feels rooted in the craft without tipping into pastiche.
The products run on Squarespace Commerce, but I replaced the cart with custom code. Each product's Add to Cart becomes Request Quote, which carries the chosen product, variant and starting price into an inquiry form. There the customer adds quantity, customisation and delivery or collection preferences. Every product page becomes a qualified lead instead of an order the forge can't fulfil off the shelf.
Services (custom metalwork, ironwork, welding and fittings) have their own pages and inquiry form for bespoke commissions. A language switcher in the header serves the whole site in English and Irish.
Request Quote replaces Add to Cart on every product

Project Value

At my current rates, a build of this scope (six core pages, a product catalogue with a custom quote flow, a services section with its own inquiry form, and a fully bilingual setup) would be quoted as a custom build at around $6,500 USD.

Who This Is For

The same approach suits any trade, maker or artisan whose work is quoted rather than bought off the shelf: furniture makers, stonemasons, joiners, ceramicists, metalworkers and other craft businesses.
